How do I start a new text without deleting or including info from an earlier text?

I receive a meme, which I wish to keep, from a friend and do not want to delete it. When I try to send a new text all previous text info is included. How do I keep the meme and not include it in future texts with this contact?

There should be a + or a pen (maybe in a circle - it depends on the text app) to start a new text. Tap it. Then choose the person to send it to. Then type the test. Then send.
