How do I stop a software update in progress? I don't have enough data!

I have a Galaxy Core Prime running Android 4.4.4. I accidently started the software update but don't have enough data to spare 591 mb!!

I tried the procedure mentioned elsewhere on this forum, pressed the download status bar until the app info came up, but force stop won't highlight or respond. What now?

I would boot into recovery and clear the cache partition to see if that helps it.

BE SURE you select recovery mode and nothing more (other than reboot device when you're done). DO NOT select anything that says RESET or you will lose all your info from the phone.
