How do I turn up the volume?

Defy is great, BUT, the sound quality and volume level are not a patch on the iPhone 3GS. The sound quality and level are more like the previous iPod Nano and shuffle - ie pretty flat and lifeless.

I am using ?200 Shure in-ears and Grado headphones to judge and am a sound engineer by trade, so please no "have you tried decent headphones?" comments please.

I am fairly sure that the volume level has been limited in the firmware - is there any form of hack?
