How do I unlock my screen lock when I've forgotten the password without resetting?

So, I usually have to scan my fingerprint. But for some reason it's only given me an option to type in my alternative password. I don't know the password. It gives me no "forgot password" option. It doesn't allow me to access my google account. When i go onto the android device manager, it says that I already have a lock screen so I don't need that password (the new one when you click on "lock"). I really don't want to reset my phone. But I will if there's really no other way of doing it. PLEASE HELP ME

I would try logging into your Google Account on a PC and then go to Android Device Manager (https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager). From there you can setup a new password and GPS/Locate your device.

I'm having the same problem. but don't see a way to unlock my device on the Google device manager page. What do people do when they find their lost device?
