I have just acquired a Hannspree Tablet HSG1281. I purchased it for my two small grandchildren as it's nice and large. It would appear to be extremely limited on what it can do with the current operating system. Settings list below :
Model SN14T71
Android Version 4.2.2
Kernel 3.0 36+ Wed Sep 25 14:37:39 HKT 2013
Build 20130925E-V1.08-13.3
OTA Updater ID hannstar133-europe-1.08
ROM version 1-08 25 Sep 2013

When I attempt to do a software update I get the following message
"Error fetching update info No Peer Certificate"

There is a 'pre-playstore' icon which takes me to an Android Playstore screen but when I click on install it tells me it cannot connect via internet.

I am at a complete loss with this and extremely disappointed. I have read about 'flashing rom' but am a total amateur at what to do. Can anyone provide me with a relatively easy step by step solution please on what files to download and how to get this tablet as up to date as it can be.

All help is gratefully appreciated and thanks for your time in reading this.

Unfortunately, for you, any ROM that's going to run well on that is still going to be fairly old and is going to end up with limited app support because of the age. IF there's any decent info out there about putting a ROM on it, the folks at XDA will have done it. There does not appear to be a device-specific forum section there for that device so the resources are likely to be VERY limited.
