How can I watch YouTube videos on my note 5 in a floating window fo it will always be on my screen

drag from top left or right of the screen toward the center of the screen. It might take a couple tries before you get it.

How about you turn your phone sideways into landscape? Both apps would have to support landscape view

Try Floating Apps in the App Store. It allows you to create floating windows that you can re-size.

Another is float tube. Just search YouTube Float. And you will find other alternatives in the play store.

Using YT app on a stock Tab S2 I got this floating window once by accident. I can't repeat it. What is the trick to getting this?

What is it called? Everytime I search, I get 3rd party floating apps -- but I have stock, unless it came with a 3rd party app installed.
