How do some of you pay for all these new phones?

Ah yes, disposable income, what a nice idea. It's something you have when you're single but not so much after you're married, even less so when you have kids, and not at all when they're in college. But we do have a 4-car garage and 3 kayaks!

my 2 kids are not in college and just now starting to get cell phones, they just get cheaper phones that I would rather buy used as it is cheaper then using insurance every few months when they break or lose a phone :) I probably wont be able to play revolving phones as much when they are in college

we have a 2 car garage........but I did get a speed boat :D

I don't get a new phone unless it's an upgrade. There's just too many being released and paying outright for the device is not feasible for me. I'd rather spend the few hundred on a family outing than on something that will be outdated by the time it hits market and the new device is released.

I have had 9 phones in 5 months :)
Went from webos HTC snap-htc hero- Motorola milstone- HTC desire- Motorola atrix- HTC inspire- iphone4- crap flipphone while waiting for ordered- Samsung galaxy s2. Ha I think I'm content for awhile. I love this thing :)

Sold my Droid X to pay for my TBolt and got it at 2yr pricing.. Otherwise, I would still have the X. I plan on keeping the Bolt for a while.

I don't buy insurance so usually keep one phone on standby in case I break something. It's usually too old to sell on ebay by the time I get another. I used to get 1 every year on annual upgrade and that's how i picked up my thunderbolt. In most cases I spent all my extra on computers and I should switch to something like guns. LOL They always go up in value and plus in Dec 2012 I might need a few.

I have a phone on standby too... a second Thunderbolt. :D

so ah, what's that total up to?

I usually buy a used phone after it's been out around 6 months and the price is better plus all bugs and kinks are usually worked out by then. I used to sell my old phones to offset the cost but started giving them away to others. I used my upgrade to get the TBolt.

I have 5 lines between my wife and kids and work and since I flip the bill I get the new phones and they get my hand me downs.

That's how I do it, kids get Craigslist specials and I use their lines upgrade. Sometimes make money too, like I paid $199 for Tbolt and sold DX for $240. I get my last annual next month and one 2 year a few days later. So wife is getting D3 and I may try Bionic. Don't like it, I can sell it and make some cash. Or save to pay full retail for next new big thing? ! I have 2 more upgrades before April of 2012.

I have several lines of service spread out over two years so I get an upgrade every few months. I have also bought phones full retail (The DInc1) and off eBay but new (Droid1). Not all of the phones listed in my sig have active service, after a phone gets so old I will replace it with something newer and just mess with it over WiFi after that. I also get special upgrade offers a couple times a year and a decent discount on some of the phones (Got TBolt for $199) from my employer or buy them from indirects like Best Buy though I am trying not to do that anymore now that Verizon has all but eliminated mail in rebates.

Im 20 years old and in the army, most smart are aimed at my age range, since we're at the point where we would most likely have a job and not much else to do with our money: i.e me have college paid for (army), car also paid for (signing bonus) and ive got no family, so what else to spend on than the latest and greatest tech. :-$

oh to be young and carefree again. :) House, Bills, Saving for retirement, gas. So much to spend on...sigh. lol.

For example, my Subaru Outback is due its 30,000 mile maintenance and tires. There goes $1000.

Drive a KIA much cheaper. :) I've seen lawn tracker with more power.

Yeah, but Subaru cars are better build quality, AWD and last 300,000. Your Kia will be rusting away in a junk yard while I'm still hitting the whitewaters with my kayak atop my Outback! I wouldn't go near a KIA with a ten foot pole. There's a reason they're like $9000 brand new. Ha.

Also, 4 cylinder= much much better gas mileage. Like, a lot.

Ouch you've got a point lol I used to drive 25 miles 1 way to work that's why I bought a disposable car good on gas.

That perception is slowly changing. KIA and Hyundai both have great cars being released and the quality is improving. Personally, I would still prefer a Subie over the latter two, but won't count them out :)

Have to chime in here...I agree totally. My 2010 Subaru Forester is the best vehicle I've ever owned (that list includes Honda, Jeep, Ford, and Mini Cooper). I just did the 30k maintenance (I actually was up to 36k by the time I got around to it), so add that expense to my mortgage, car payments, a two year old, etc...I can't really justify paying retail for the latest greatest devices. But I wish I could, I have my eye on the Samsung GS2.

My wife just finished law school and has not been able to work, still doesn't have a job. So were barely making it on my crappy income. I love phones but can hardly afford even the discounted 2yr prices. Especially after full retail taxes. This economy sucks so I just assumed you all just have tons of credit card debt.
