How does everyone like their Note?

I love my Note 8, especially since I'm coming from the Note Edge, which replaced my Note 4.

However, I'm trying to stick with the Samsung keyboard and whereas it was highly effective with the Note Edge, it absolutely sucks for the Note 8! Check my file attachment, which shows that I was trying to swipe a couple of words, and the keyboard kept blowing it. if I Swype a 20 letter word, and I don't take my finger off the keyboard, I do not expect it to give me a slew of words.....I'm expecting a 20 or so letter single word. Strangely, I get a bunch of words. In another text, the word "MINUTES" kept giving me "min yes", with an embedded space!

I want to switch back to gboard, but I can't turn off the Samsung keyboard now. Whereas I can hold down the spacebar and choose the Samsung keyboard while I am in gboard, I can't do the reverse. I had to make a tech support inquiry for something that should be Azizi as switching from gboard to Samsung. Of course I just spoke "as easy", not Azizi...but that's a different tv (different) issue...

I'm loving pretty much everything about this phone so far. My biggest apprehensions coming from the Note 4 were:

Removal of physical home button.
Bixby.
Taller/thinner screen.
Sealed/smaller battery.

The lack of a physical home button is a total non-issue. The on screen button is actually incredible. Slide up, it's there. Long press where it should be and you go home.

I was afraid that Bixby would be some poor man's broken down version of Google Assistant that I'd end up disabling, but I'm finding it to be far more intuitive and useful. Who knew Sammy could develop quality software?

Wasn't sure how I'd feel about the more narrow display. Thought it might make things awkward, especially if writing with the S-Pen, but no complaints at all.

Jury is still out on the battery, but so far I'm impressed with it. The real issue will be with its long term durability. If I can get at least 18mo before needing to have it replaced, I'll consider it a success.

Biggest complaint so far is the keyboard. Man, this thing is really innacurate, especially with swipe. I used stock keyboard on my Note 4 for nearly 3 years without an issue, but this one just seems bad. Might have to try a 3rd party keyboard, which I'm not looking forward to.

Going on three days now and really like it a lot. Coming off a Note 3 that I used daily up until the Note 8 arrived. Sure, it was getting a little slow and I'd replaced the battery a couple times but it still got the job done. So far I'm loving the all the little upgrades. I was a hardcore Nova user on the N3 and it's downloaded to the N8 but so far still using Touchwiz. I always at least try to use the stock apps. I'm fine with the stock calendar and messenger app but the keyboard sucked. Went back to my favorite - Swype - but also giving Swiftkey another go but already thinking of going back to Swype.

The increased size (length) was no problem for me, I think mostly because the slightly thinner width made it seem to fit my hand even better. I have not been bothered by the positioning of the fingerprint scanner either. I love the little programming hacks like making a double press of the power button launch the camera. I found a cool little app that allows programming of the fingerprint button that I use to turn on the flashlight with a double tap of the fingerprint scanner - very useful. Love the edge screens.

So far not really feeling Bixby. Just can't seem to see the use of it. Also, to turn the voice on means losing the voice activated "Capture" to take photos which I find very useful. New S-pen features are great. Love the note taking from the off screen. I'm a little annoyed with the perceived 'gap' at the top of the screens. It seems like the icons/widget's, what-have-you could and should be able to go about a quarter inch higher. I'm running an HD weather widget on the front page and it just seems to sit too low. Not quite sure what that extra gap is for. I think it should run right up to just below the notification bar. Oh well.

Got it in Spigen Tough Armor case in black and gold that is very attractive. So far not running any front screen cover. Rarely drop my phone. Ran a Tech Armor glass cover on the N3 and after 5 years had just a few tiny scratches. Until I hear about a tempered glass cover that fits well I'll probably just go naked. I figure if I end up with some small scratches or even heaven forbid cracks then I can always just put on Whitestone Dome case then as that covers scratches and repairs cracks making them nearly invisible, or so they claim.

Agreed, swipe on Gboard is much better than not only the Samsung keyboard but any other one out there.

I'm confused, can you not change the default keyboard through settings>general management>language and input?

Weird. I just switched to Gboard to try it out and had no problem setting it as the default. Overall I like it so far, but I really loved the default keyboard. The layout is insanely good. Gboard is nice and smooth, but man it just has this clunky look to it. Not a fan of the special character layout either. That'll take some getting used to.

Everything is great but MMS. My fiance has an iPhone and I still have my iPhone 6s plus. I switch the sim so the Note 8 is my daily now. She sent me a video of our unborn child kicking her belly but I couldn't make it out because the video was so compressed unlike iMessage. We take a lot of videos and photos and send them to each other. I will be keeping this but I may switch back to the iPhone X when it's released. This will be my backup. Damn you carriers for compressing MMS.
Why don't y'all just share an album on Google photos...I don't even send pics and vids anymore I just share my backed up files

Although I'm not a huge Google photos fan so my g/f and I use OneDrive, but any cloud-based storage will do...Dropbox, Drive, etc.

So far, I am smitten with mine. It is the first phone I've had where I could honestly say -- if I were not a programmer, I could probably use it as my only device. It is that good. Especially when you connect a BT mouse and keyboard. Not sure how useful DeX is (I don't have it), but I really am hoping Samsung creates a notebook shell for the Note like the HP Elite (Windows Phone) Lapdock. At that point, this could severely eliminate Chromebooks and Ultrabooks for a large number of people. Not me, but certainly for my wife and others who don't do taxing things on their machines or have to run Windows/macOS specific software.

Anyhow -- enjoying the larger screen. Enjoying the Samsung Rugged Case which has the little kickstand. Love the in-hand feel. It is a bit heavy. An S8 is more comfortable to read with, for instance. Not as thrilled with the quality of the telephoto camera (seems a bit soft) but the main (wide) camera is fantastic as always.

No real lag to speak of (yet), but that's how my Note5 and S7 started out. I'm keeping an eye out on it, but so far so good. Battery life is so-so, but it gets me through the day and I have wireless chargers throughout the house so it usually rests on one.

I love the SPen. Especially since I do Hebrew and Greek work -- and it is really nice to take notes in other languages on this device. I don't care for how the screen curves when you are using the phone without a case (which is a risky proposition anyhow) because I get spurious touches on the edges.

Love the silly animated Gifs -- it is one of those features that has myriad uses such as annotating a map with the directions towards your location, and such -- but it also is just super cool to send to my wife.

The Iris Scanner seems faster and more accurate than the S8 I had before this. Not sure if that is just because it got a better initial read on my eyes, or there's something different about the software/hardware than the S8. But I had a lot more difficulties with the S8.

Fingerprint Sensor: enough has been said. I rarely use it except for apps like my Banking App that uses it to validate me. Rarely to unlock the phone.

I was excited to use the App Pairing feature, but I find I don't use it as much as I had imagined I would. Maybe I need to force myself to use it more.

I feel like this was a very solid though expensive purchase. I always felt like my phones were usually 8/10ths there. This one is closer to 9.5/10ths there for me. Excited to see the Note 9.

I had the Note 7 (my first Note) and had it for only 2 weeks and loved it. This is a step forward and a step back at the same time. The one really annoying thing about it that I hope the find a way around in the future is how difficult it is to unlock when it's on my wireless charger (whether it's laying flat or standing up at an angle, but mostly when it's laying flat). With my S6 edge, Note 7 or S7 edge, I could unlock it with my pointer finger when it's laying down. Now with the finger print scanner on the back and iris scanner having to be a foot away from your face, I have to pick it up every time to unlock it. Sometimes I want to check notifications without having to lift it up, but scroll and glance down. I know you can enable smart unlock so I wouldn't have to unlock it, but it currently only works (to my knowledge) when it's connected to a bluetooth device. They should add a software patch to enable it when it's on trusted wifi networks as well. Bixby is cool so far, but that Bixby button is driving me nuts... I can't tell you how many times a day it's accidentally pressed. Samsung needs to send a software patch to allow you to change that to a different command as well. Everything else seems great.

Can't you use your voice to unlock it?

You know that Google photos will show your photos and videos that are backed up on drive right?

What exactly are you not a fan of on Google photos? Now you can archive pics and have it open directly in the album tab I don't have any complaints about it

I actually love using live messages I can see myself using it a lot...and it's noticeably faster than my S8+ probably because of the ram...love it!
