How far of updates does Google release on the Pixels?

I stopped buying Google phones after the last Nexus line. Never went to the Pixel family because I feel Google was ripping us off with prices. Their Nexus line was driven by low prices and excellent quality.

I was wondering how far in advanced are software and security updates now for Pixel phones? When do they stop releasing updates for a phone?

Just thinking of what my next phone will be but no rush because I still love my battery driven Moto Z Play (1st edition)

The reason for the stark difference in price between the Nexus line and the Google Pixel line is because the Pixel line is for a different clientele. The Pixels are premium flagships built for people who want and will pay for premium flagships; whereas the Nexus line targeted an audience similar to the OnePlus crowd: those who wanted awesome bang for less buck. Both lines are targeted towards different buyers; so it does make sense that their price points would differ.

I personally owned a Nexus 5 and loved it, and now I own a Pixel 2. It's really nice to be back with stock Android! I do agree with you about the Pixel phones being expensive; but when you compare them to phones like the iPhone X, it's a lot easier to swallow!

Pixel updates are for 3 years from the release date, so if you bought a Pixel 2 now, you've "already gotten" the first update (to Oreo). (So if you buy the P3, you'll get updates until around September 2021, but there won't be any new version of Android until around September of 2022 - so it's really a "you have the latest OS for 4 years" phone.)

The Security updates are the same - 3 years from release date, and so far, they've only missed October 2017, for the Pixel 2 and 2 XL - I guess they had nothing at the time.

OG Pixels get 2 years of OS updates(Android P is the last one), and 3 years of security updates.

Pixel 2's get 3 years of both OS and security, due to the initial issues it launched with.

I won't be able to stand it if I can't beta test Android Q next year, so hopefully will be getting the Pixel 3 XL by the end of the year.

I have pixel xl & still receiving updates.. Google is awesome no complaint about any software updates so far.

I've heard it is supposed to be 3 years, but Google could change that. My issue with most phone manufactures is how the roll out feat8 and security updates.
