How good and versatile is the camera?

I'm use to Galaxy Ultra, which has big Megapixel counts, quad lenses, huge zoom. I worry about losing a lens and going to triple cam instead of quad and I worry about 50MP compared to 108MP and 100x zoom down to 30x zoom. How versatile and capable is Pixel Pro camera?

Do you actually shoot in 108mp mode? It's slow and looks horrendously bad in anything but ideal lighting, typically a sunny day outdoors, and produces less detail than most 24mp cameras due to the tiny lens limitations of a cell phone.

There have been purported 'camera comparisons' for the 7/7 Pro vs other phones now for weeks, but it's far, far more likely than not that they aren't actually using using the 7/7 Pro (especially if they don't even show the physical phone (not just a stock or reused image) in the video). It's a really easy thing to fish for views by saying "Shot on a Pixel 7 Pro!"

If someone were to actually break the embargo on hands-on performance/function reviews (which runs till late next week), even then it would be on a device that is likely not using the final software that will be considered the "release" version.

Yeah all of my go to reviewers only had quick first imressions based off the announcement yesterday and some very limited hands on of the demo units at the Google store. That's also not ideal since it's inside with a lot of lighting. Can't really test zoom and lowlight.

I will say I think the Pixel cameras will impress as always. I like what they are doing with the zoom in the 7 Pro. But the S22U still has the best zoom on a smart phone. But the Pixels still have the best post processing algorithm in the business.

Sheesh I think my Pixel 6 Pro takes better pics than the Samsung or an Apple for that matter...At some point it is the user. Git good at taking Pics. The P 7 Pro is better than the 6 Pro hence...

Anything beyond 10x on the S22 Ultra is starting to rely on software.. While the Pixel 7 Pro will 'only' offer 5x, I'd be very surprised if Google's software prowess doesn't make it at least the equal and likely the better option at some point after 10x and on the way to its cap at 30x (with Samsung obviously being the only one of the two to be able to extend beyond that).

Do you genuinely use 100 X zoom? Does anyone really use that or is it just for bragging rights... I'm not taking the pee, but is it ever used? Surely quality will be crap at that level of zoom...

I have the galaxy s22u and the pixel and I can tell you the camera on the pixel is better in a lot of situations. The 30x zoom is not as good as Samsung but I don't use that very often. Everyday shots I prefer the pixel.
