Love the idea of super fast charging but can't help but notice how hot the phone gets. It was at 42 celsius/108 fahrenheit... Is this still within safe level for battery? I never seen any phone gets this hot. My Note 3 and moto x (2nd gen) has never really reached the 40/104 mark...

i didn't measure exactly the temp but it does get warm. not hot though. and the software comes with safety off if the phone gets too hot. I would think that the level in which this activates is well within safe temp.

Re: Turbo Charger... How hot does your phone gets?

Mine arrived today with a 0% charge so I let it charge up to 100% before using it. IMO, it was pretty warm, about the same as my MacBook pro when the battery is charging, for the first 15 minutes or so, then it cooled off. It took just over 2 hours to go to 100%. If anything, it might have run a bit hotter than normal due to being in an Otterbox. I ran it a bunch today and concluded tonight with about 73% left so will give the charger another go tomorrow and check it again. I have a HVAC temperature probe for my electrician's handset so can accurately measure the temp inside the case. Will update.

Try the GSAM battery app. It gives the internal temp readout and graph over time.

I have also seen mine reach around 110 while charging on Turbo Charger . But it also gets close to 110 like about 108 occasionally when running intense apps like high graphics games like some of the newer 3rd person shooters.

Re: Turbo Charger... How hot does your phone gets?

has anyone tested how much difference having it in like an outer box case makes as far as how high temperature level goes, while charging or under heavy use?

Re: Turbo Charger... How hot does your phone gets?

I have a life proof on my turbo and was woken up the other night when my phone reached 137.5°. I was using an inductive charging stand at the time so I pulled the device out of the life proof case and charged it caseless. I can not say how hit it got but there were no more alarms and when I woke up and retrieved the phone, it was not hot to the touch.

I thought the Turbo didn't have an internal temperature sensor. The All-In-One Toolbox app I load that tells me the state of the sensors shows that it isn't there.

Couldn't tell ya. I'm asleep when mine is charging .

Apparently it does; the GSAM app reports temperature that seems to track my finely-calibrated organic sensor/manipulator device. I think the hottest I ever noticed was around 115°, when I was turbocharging concurrently with running Google Nav. I've held it in front of my ac vent a couple of times and would like to get a sturdy vent mount to alleviate this situation.

Re: Turbo Charger... How hot does your phone gets?

That's good to know. I'll open up Elixir and see if it shows a temperature sensor. Thanks!

(On edit): Elixir shows that the ambient temperature sensor isn't available, either. I wonder where the numbers are coming from in GSAM.

It sounds like a few people on this forum have had overheating issues when using Qi chargers and cases. I wonder if this is yet a "known issue" at Motorola?

Re: Turbo Charger... How hot does your phone gets?

I use Qi charging all the time. The hottest it got was 94. Low temp of 60.3. Using the Verizon Cradle stand.

The only time I have ever noticed it getting hot while charging was if I had it plugged into an after market charger. The one that came with it it doesn't not does the Qi charger. But with an after market it will reach 140 degrees.

Re: Turbo Charger... How hot does your phone gets?

Mine has gotten to 104 with the otter box case on tonight it's never gotten that hot before, so I'm wondering what's going on

I tend to turn my phone off when I'm charging it. It chargers quicker and it doesn't get as hot. At least, that's the way it works for my phone. Mine is in an otterbox, so I'm sure that generates more heat than if it wasn't in a case.

My Turbo gets burning hot- often nearing 120°F+ when measured through Ampere

my Turbo 2 is running at 102 degrees right now.. it's usually around 108 to 110 when turbocharging.. I've had this Turbo 2 for about a year and it always seems to run a little hot compared to other phones I've had
