Was gonna make a thread about these exact issues but here you are with it! I'm almost in the exact same boat. Came from an m8, which I loved, and a nexus 5 before that. Two of the smoothest/fastest Android phones there are. I've read the reviews that admired the fluidity of this phone, its decent battery life and camera and sceen etc. Most of its true but the few issues with the missed taps and very apparent lag and not as great of battery life are my main issues as well. Whether this stuff is in fact related to carrier bloat as others stated, which I tend to believe, or not, those are my main wants in a phone and this isn't doing so hot in those areas. It's a really good phone and everyone is going to find faults somewhere no matter what. But the two biggest things I wanted aren't very close to being there. I think I'm out of the return period but if I wasn't I would rather give this phone another shot using an unlocked one with no bloat. What do you guys think, would it be worth the try?

Try one if you can. I use the unlocked variant and it just flies. I haven't experienced any of the issues reported with the carrier versions.

Very well put man. Like other said, you hit the nail on the head, right dur! I returned 2 G4's due to similar issues and what not but then after having 3 other phones, I'm picking another G4 up today. I have 3 kids as well and I'd rather capture the moment than be selfish and have some phone that does everything but capture the moment well. I argue with friends who don't have kids and they say N6 is perfect and all and I tell them that they won't understand. People don't realize that kids grow fast and all you have is memories and pictures. Make the most out of it, take some great pictures and don't forget to put the funny ones up in a slideshow at their wedding

BTW, I did notice that after a week's use and a couple of full battery cycles, the battery performance improved slightly. I know that batteries these days don't have "memory" but I do notice better performance if I run a full cycle at least once a month.
I fully agree with you that every manufacturer has gone brain dead with batteries these days. I don't understand the obsession with making phones thin. Form over function... apparently it's a better business decision to make a phone with an inadequate battery and offer an additional battery for free. ( I'm waiting on my free battery but normally use a case so don't know what I'll be doing yet).

Huh? I had a 2010 Droid Incredible (Dinc) and it was thinner and lighter than the 2010 iPhone.

In fact, the OG Droid and iPhone 3G were very close in specs.
OG Droid Specs Released 2008: 4.56 x 2.36 x 0.54 inches
iPhone 3G Specs Released 2008: 4.55 x 2.44 x 0.48 inches

But neither started the skinny cellphone. That belongs to the first Motorola RAZR

I read these posts and I'm convinced most of you could not have survived growing up in the 60's, let alone the 70's...obsessing about screen lag? Adjusting RAW photos to spruce them up cause the OEM camera software isn't good enough? Huh? That hunk of circuitry you hold in your hands is just that, and God forbid the battery dies (too much OST) or you lose it between the pillows of your couch...these phone manufacturers want you to totally lose interest in what you are now holding six months (or less) from now to something new you must analyze in the next 14 day return period. Hey Dad, put down the damn phone and spent time with your kids, that's what they will remember. You don't need 500 gigabytes of top quality photos to prove what a great childhood you gave them!

Absolutely! I am doing the "You should have been around when we had to get up off the couch to change the channel" to my 10 year old (with a smile, of course), just to remind him of the perspective of how good he has it when it comes to gadgets, but bad in the respect that he doesn't have the freedom we had to be a "free range kid" and go out on his own to "come in before dark" like we did.

The G4 is my first "smart phone" after sharing a flip phone with my wife for 8 years, and having my own flip phone for the last four. So far, I am overwhelmed and spoiled at the amount of awesome, many times frivolous, things I can do with it. I can see how once you get used to one of these things, it's hard to imagine a phone that only makes calls. I guess as Humans, we're always going to want more, and for things to be better, easier, and faster. ..it's why we innovate and evolve.

Thanks oldschoolsig! It's quite a handful, but a lot of fun! Nice thing is Verizon has been very helpful in walking me through setting up and fixing things I break. I know they cripple certain features, but so far, so good for me! The woman helping me noticed I was still on my 500MB Data plan from my flip phone days and comped me a free extra 500MB/month for a year ("A $10 Dollar Value", said in booming announcer's voice) so I wouldn't worry too much about blowing my Data allotment, which i'm pretty conservative with.

The best thing you have also done besides getting your first smartphone in the G4 is joining this site! Read threads of other having similar problems or just threads where important info is shared with the community. This site is truly very valuable to anyone who has a smartphone! We are all here to share our experience and help anyone with whatever problems they may have with their device so ask away!
