How Low Do You Let Your Memory Get?

Just wondering how low other DroidX owners let there memory get to.

Mine drops down to around 46M of available memory.

I know there's controversy over task killers but I do use one wisely for certain apps I want closed. After killing stuff off I get back up to about 112-125M and once a week I clean out the phones old messages, browser history....etc and I get it back up to around 175-211M.
I know there's threads discussing memory but I want to start a poll of other members DroidX phones memory usage.

So the question is How low do you let your memory go?

I have no clue what mines at. I let it do its thing. With root and roms and overclock and just the android system itself I don't see the need to watch it. I do reboot and clear my cache once a day.

My droid x frequently got down to 46 but it rarely got lower. I removed ATK rooted and downloaded a cache cleaner. If there is a rogue app I go into running apps in the system and kill it there. Ever since I removed ATK my lag has gone away, and my 3G 1X issue isn't nearly as bad as it had been (but its still an effin issue moto/vzn) make sure some of your side loaded apps are closing for battery sake and your memory will be fine.

I have never watched it:) no need too, runs like the energizer bunny, on and on....love it!

I try to keep it up as much as possible with a daily cache cleaning....reboot daily, and a quick boost app...and so far no lag problems on 3g or 4g.

besides the number changing, do you all really see a dramatic difference in performance by cache cleaning, rebooting etc..? i know that i'm obsessed with the battery life of my x, and because of that i'm always checking it, but i was wondering if there was that much difference in what you guys were talking about, or more of an obsession :)

I watched my memory for the first week or so (stupid preinstalled task killer), haven't even checked in several months. The system manages your memory for you, just let it do its thing.

Ok, dumb question here - Where exactly are you looking up available memory? I have never had an issue with memory, just curious as to where you can look up info.

Probably in that nasty task killer app.

I almost never reboot unless I have to, I don't watch my memory.. every not and then I'll kill Skype and the Verizon data usage app..

but outside of that, I just use it and let it do it's thing.

I never check it, so I have no idea how low it gets. Thankfully, this isn't a RIM based product.

Never ever check it, don't feel the need to yet I don't have a million Apps, just what I need to get by

It is recommended per the manufacturer that you restart the phone at least once a day. This is particularly good to do when you notice the device becoming sluggish or if it just doesn't seem to be acting right.

Really? I never knew this... where did you find this in the manual or Moto's website?

I fall right in line with the OP- those memory stats are spot on. Before Froyo I'd never drop below 70-80, after Froyo it goes as low as the mid 40's. I've seen all the arguments against using ATK, but I still believe in running it if you are smart about how you use it. I've gone without using it for awhile and noticed a slow down in usage. I like to be able to quickly kill a process if needed, but for the most part I let the system do its thing. The key to successfully using ATK in my opinion is to have it kill itself after you run it. That way there's no backend drain on the phone and you still get the benefits of it at your finger tips. I use LP dock swipe gestures to launch ATK so that its out of sight for the most part. Im extremely careful about what I put on my phone and do obsess about keeping it running smoothly. I have not rooted yet and get a quadrant score of roughly 1350 I believe... will have to verify that shortly. Hope this helps!

Just ran quadrant and confirmed with a score of 1381 on an unrooted droid x running LP and using ATK.

One of the widgets that came on your phone initially is called Tips & Tricks. In that widget you will find a bunch of good information about the X. One of the tips is called "Maintain high performance by rebooting". It is there you will find Motorola's blurb on restarting your phone daily...

You don't really need to watch your memory stats. The android archatecture is different from BlackBerry where you needed to watch your resources. Most RIM devices had bad memory leaks, and required reboots.

The way I look at it, you have all of this memory in your phone, why not have the phone take advantage of it, as long as it manages things appropriately.

Task killers for the most part cause more harm than good, but it sounds like the OP may be using it appropriately and killing apps only when they need to be. By the way -- You can do this under settings, manage apps.
