How many of you getting the EVO are coming from a Pre/Pixi?

So, which phone are you leaving for the EVO?

Really? Sweet...that makes the decision even easier! I guess I have that mindset that every developer I ran into in the webOS world is only a webOS developer.

I am excited!

+1
I love WebOS but tired of the hardware issues. Now that I have been exploring/researching android, I am amazed at the number of apps compared to webos. I have been a palm product user for a long time, came to palm from the old handspring visorphone when they merged. But with that said, even if Palm comes out with the c4o or whatever, not sure it will still be enough to keep me.

I'm so done with my pre. For some reason my upgrade is july 1st. And I can't wait. I got my phone on july 10t so it doesn't make sense but hey the earlyer the better

Sprints been moving the upgrade up to the 1st of the month. I've had one upgrade actually pushed two months ahead.

This may be a weird question, but how stable is Android 2.1? Does anyone have experience with it getting sluggish or slowing down due to too many apps running? Does it crash? What am I, as a former Winmo 6.1 and webOS user, in store for?

It's awesome to see so many new posters around here. the evo release looks like its gonna bring us some passionate former webos users :)

in response to android 2.1, it runs great. ive had it on my hero for a couple months and ive had nothing but good experiences. with a 1ghz snapdragon, it will be epic

Depends on the device. The lower spec devices (Droid, Hero, etc) will start to lag with many background processes going on, but you can kill the processes with a good task manager. The high end devices (Incredible, EVO, Nexus One) have so much power, they rarely lag :D.

Another PreCentral user here. Part of me is kinda sad to see so many of us over here. I too will be in line (or preorder) the Evo as soon as I know I can.

The webOS-Internals and Canuck Software guys have done some amazing work. Part of me is hoping they evolve the webOS ecosystem A LOT in the next year so I might be interested in switching back to Palm if I don't LOVE Android.

I am on my second Pre and really haven't had too much of an issue as far as hardware goes. My Oreo effect is minimized by having a Innocase from Seidio on the phone which tightens things up quite a bit. My battery life was never an issue because of the Seidio 2600 battery. I never had dead pixels, and screen blotches were the reason for my exchanging my first Pre for this second one. My issue is with the inconsistent performance of webOS. Sometimes an app starts fast, other times it takes 5 or more seconds. Delays in the phone app are inexcuseable. The App Catalog, while growing, is doing so too slowly and to be honest, I am tired of seeing yet another bible reader, yet another tip calculator, yet another sexy girl app, yet another "one books as an app" app, etc etc... Every game that is not a 3d game has performance issues, even simple stuff like the helicopter game, all due to the crappy memory management that webOS seems to struggle with. Of course once you use your phone after a fresh restart, you inevitably will get the "too many cards error" when you want to show one of those fancy 3d games off to your friends. Too much is too much, I am gonna miss all the nifty NewsRoom and Facebook notifications and quite a few other things on the Pre, but if I get a fast phone with a huge screen and hopefully more decent apps to pick from, then I'll be happy with the Evo. I came from a Sprint Touch before the Pre, so a software keyboard is a non issue to me, although I am sure I'll miss the Pres keyboard at first.

Well said on a lot of the issues I'm having as well. It's really all the "little things" that frustrate me about webOS. I've been using the Homebrew VKB as much as possible to get me ready for a touchscreen keyboard. I've had a Treo 650, Treo 755p and Centro before the Pre...so I'll take some getting used to a soft keyboard.

I'll have to put my Pre on the back burner when the EVO comes. I love my Nexus, but damnnnnnn, this phone is sexy. Lol.

I really want to see what the Legend is like if/when it comes to Sprint...it seems to be a better size for me than the EVO.

Coming from my launch day Pre to the EVO but leaving my wife on her launch day Pre ... for now. Multiple exchange accounts, gmail imap, contact/calendar integration from multiple sources (Exchange and Gmail) is a must and unless I'm mistaken, EVO can handle it.

Are you jumping ship to the EVO?

I want to see how many people will be jumping from there current phone to the HTC EVO.

I personally will be dropping my Samsung Moment like a bad habit the day the Evo comes out.

Im dropping my BB, My Carrier and Paying a Contract Cancellation for the EVO...

I plan on making Tmo's life hell up until that moment... As of right now I have worked out a deal from 200 cancellation to 75 bux... I know they can do better...
Retention will have fun trying to talk me out of it...

I am as well a BB convert, and I haven't looked back...

i wouldnt technically call it jumping ship. I have an Iphone (company paid for) but i will be getting an evo for personal use

I'd hardly call it "dumping" when I will be upgrading from a Treo 755p. :-)

Unless Palm comes up with an amazing announcement prior to the Evo release, I'll be running to it and leaving he 755p in the dust.

BTW... I just checked out the weight comparison between the Evo and the 755p. The Evo is only .4 oz more.

I'm going to get rid of my Pre. I really do like it, but not feeling good about Palms future, and the EVO does seem top be the best out there. Much like last June when I dumped my BB for the Pre. I wonder what I'll be using next year?? BTW, I really do like the Sprint Network, and they have the best family plans out there. If your thinking of switching.. I say go for it.

@mapinfojoe
Im also going to become a convert from webos to android for the evo for the same reasons. Palm's future isnt looking good and I dont think they will ever make a phone like the evo. So here I come android lets what you have to offer me or I might switch to Windows Phone 7 by summer of 2011.
