I'm on the market for a small and fairly cheap tablet. The 2012 Nexus is a possibility, the 2013 version isn't available here (Iceland) and I have not idea when it will be so as it stands it's the 2012 that I'm going for.
I know Nexus devices get updates before other devices but will the 2012 get any more updates after the 4.3 since the 2013 is now out in stores?

The Nexus devices usually get around 3 years' worth of updates, IIRC.

After that, there are usually Roms based off of the latest versions. For example, there are 4.3 ROMs for the Nexus One, which stopped getting official updates a long time ago.

I see, so the device should stay "current" until 2015. That's cool, longer than my phone haha.

Also, I've been wondering. Should I buy the Nexus 7 it'll come out of the box with 4.1.1, yes? Or whatever it had when it was first released.

That is correct. And you will get a notification saying that it has downloaded the latest version for you to update, should you so choose.

Really? 2012 models never shipped with a newer version than 4.1.x? I find that hard to believe...

[edit]: To the OP: I personally would expect it to come with 4.2.x immediately upgradeable to 4.3.

Awesome, thanks for your replies :)
so there are two to three android updates each year, or at least it seems like it lol. That should bring this tablet up to what? 5.x.x or 6.x.x even. Cool:)
