I don't think you can record 4k on SD because of the write speed limits. Even if you do, it won't be large in size.

That's false. I record UHD video to SD all the time. Just try it. Or read the manual.

The Note 4 limits each UHD recording (which is actually 3K, despite the industry's inaccurate 4K label) to five minutes, regardless of available storage. That's about 1.8 GB.

I recall reading somewhere that the 5 minute restriction was put in place because of overheating concerns.

Yeah the 5 minute limit is a slight inconvenience for me as well. But should I ever need to take such a lengthy video I don't mind splitting it up. My go pro does that every 30 minutes.

As people have stated its capped at 5 minutes and Samsung have warned your phone could fry if you root to change the amount of time plus it would void your warranty. Also file sizes depend on the movement and ISO etc.

Is there a time limit with shooting 1080p? If not, how much are you really going to miss going from 4K to 1080p? I mean based on the content of what you're shooting and your intended audience (If you're posting on youtube, how many people actually have 4K monitors?) why not just drop it back some?

If the content is really something that must be shot in 4K, then why not use something more suitable than your cell phone?

If you're shooting from a distance, higher resolutions allows you to zoom in further in editing. That's my reason.

I'd rather shoot 1080P@60FPS than 4K
.....in actual fact, that is what I do, looks far better.
