I have a second generation moto x and I was wondering how much space lollipop uses. On my 32 gig I have almost 25 gig free which means lollipop is using 7 gig. Is this what people are normally getting? I read somewhere that lollipop was supposed to be relatively smaller?

I have a 16 GB Nexus and Lollipop takes 3.55. Something to remember is active display, always listening takes up some storage space as it's part of the ROM.

Edit: My M8 AOSP (granted it's still KK) takes 7.07.

Not sure the space it takes would change. From what I understand Lollipop just manages resources better so it can run on less RAM and processing power. But the size if the os doesn't seem to change that much.

Don't forget, due to the way manufacturers define it, a 32gb really has 29.8gb free. So os takes 4.8gb,if what you are saying is correct. I don't think that the footprint has really reduced in any huge way on lollipop

Fyi,My 128gb microSDXC card even when just formatted has around 119gb.

I have a 16 gig Moto X and a 16 gig Nexus 4 after a factory reset the Nexus has 2 gig free more than the Moto. So I guess Moto software is pretty huge!
3.5 nexus
5.2 Moto

See you below., not moto x but to show the point

This chart explains it better. Hardware is defined by metric GB. Software is defined by binary GB.

Thanks guys! I feel better now. I thought maybe some weirdness was going on in the background that was eating up my disk space.

The OS etc is always gonna leave you with less space than is actually advertised when you buy the phone, but I've gotta say that taking up around 8gb seems quite excessive. That's half the capacity of a 16gb phone gone already!

Not on 5.0 with that damn memory leak! My Moto X closes almost everything (including the Launcher) the moment I go to another app.
