How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyone?

Many of us (such as myself) have been waiting for this device since early in the summer when early rumors came out. Now it's December. CES is a couple months away. This isn't a "true" nexus device since bloatware apps are included, it seems Verizon may have locked the bootloader, and Google Wallet has been disabled.

Given all of this, how long is everybody willing to wait for this device before either buying something else or waiting for the next generations of smart phones to release? Personally, I would likely be willing to wait for this device through to end of this month for one reason only...The hardware in the Galaxy Nexus has been optimized to satisfy all of the new features of ICS. Given everything we've heard about how Verizon has managed to pervert this Nexus device, I wouldn't even be surprised if updates no longer came straight from Google.

But this is the only device with no hardware buttons and NFC support.

lol im not going past december. If the Nexus isn't released before the Rezound gets permanent root and a stable ICS Rom. Im finished.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

ces phones most likely won't come until march at the earliest. I mean that is when the tb launched and that was shown at ces. Look how long it took to get the charge and bionic. Plus you don't get the nexus for specs you get it for updates first. At least that is why I want a nexus.

I don't care about specs. I want ICS, with Verizon 4G, on an unlocked straight-from-Google phone. There is no other option until the next Nexus. Period.

ICS on my fascinate is awesome and enough to hold me over until the nexus launches.

Bootloader locked, OP your funny.

The only way Ill skip the nexus if some unlocked ICS phone comes along with better specs, which probably wont be until after the nexus is released.

What's so funny? We already know for a fact that the bootloader is technically locked. The only question is how difficult the bootloader will be to unlock. Historically, on a Nexus device it has been easy. All we can do is hope it will be equally easy on a Verizon Nexus.

Its not going to be any more "locked" than the GSM version. Verizon has no say in this as its a Google Phone. Its not a Moto device which are forcibly locked down by VZW.

CES will be interesting this year. But your premise is wrong. MyVerizon does not really mean the phone is bloated, and I dont believe it will be locked.

How long will I wait? I won't. There are plenty of really, really good next-gen phones out right now, and I got one. I'll check out the Gnex and CES phones when the time comes.

As opposed to not buying the phone for which you're salivating?

The longer somebody has to wait for a phone loaded with ICS with a 1.2 ghz dual-core processor, the less attractive that device is. A year ago, it would have been amazing. A year from now, it will be pathetic. Right now, it's right on par with what you'd expect (having the advantage of ICS, though). There will, however, be a turning point where this phone will no longer be impressive enough to drop $700 on it.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

Like most (IMHO), I'll wait until something better comes along. Right now, nothing seems to be able to outshine it - even if everything else had ICS. THAT is what keeps me waiting. Still, if the GNote with LTE were available in the US for $300, I'd buy that over the GNex.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

I'm staying with Verizon, I don't want the RAZR, and I don't want the Rezound. I want ICS, and stock/pure Google sounds great. I'll wait for the Nexus until it comes out....but if we were to hit CES with no Nexus yet, I'd probably look at other options. The 8th is looking real good now though.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

I will wait until it is launched, at this point I don't know how long that will be.

Really I want the large HD screen, I want Verizon LTE, I want ICS and I want a good looking phone. Right now that pretty much leaves just the GN. If another phone comes out with the above before the GN than I may get that.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

As an owner of a Nexus One (that I purchased on Day 1 for AT&T) I can tell you that the hardware simply doesn't tell the story...

"Future proof" does not begin to describe it. All the different ROMS (particularly Cyanogen) make the phone like new over and over again.

I have a Droid X that I purchased almost a year later...and the Nexus still makes that feel dated.

The newer hardware will always be just around the corner. But there is a reason that all the developers and such are paying to import the phone already. You want Dev support? Look no further than a nexus. You want updates? look to further than a nexus

Blindly waiting for every pumped up spec won't get you anything but broke and frustrated.

And to the OP - your fears of bloat and locked bootloaders have already been discounted by many people who have the LTE GNEX. So stop fretting and just relax.

Even if the phone comes out on 12/31 at 11:59:59 it will be just as good as if you had it in your hands today.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

From what I remember reading, the Nexus comes locked, but you only have to enter the unlock command to take care of that. As for waiting, I'll wait until the end of the month, and if there is absolutely no word from Verizon, I might get a Rez.

I just want a Nexus. (for present and future software reasons)

I am getting impatient with Verizon. Network be damned. I will switch carriers if necessary to have the Nexus experience.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

The only other phone I really want to get is the Skyrocket with LTE, but that means losing unlimited data and the coverage that VZW already has. I plan on getting the Rezound tomorrow to hold me over until I can return it or the Nexus is officially released, whichever comes first. I am tired of all of the rumors.

It would make sense for VZW to release this phone before Christmas to maximize their profits, getting all of our money now is better that getting some of our money a month from now to make their numbers look good. Sure there will be a lot of returns if it is released before Christmas, but again, why risk people leaving for carriers that aren't as hesitant? Verizon's marketing strategy behind this is similar to the "Don't think about pink elephants" trick. They tell you not to think about the nexus, and what do people do? Show Verizon that all they want is the Nexus; and the more people write, call, and complain, they are actually proving to Verizon that they don't have to promote this phone. Plenty of people are crazy for this phone as it is, and the best way they see gets people behind it is not saying a word about it.

Remember, it is supply and demand that runs the economy and calculates how much profit is available from a given item. If supply can't increase to make more money, demand has to. From their end, withholding the phone is increasing demand and showing them how many customers are either loyal to Verizon, or unwilling to switch.

Re: How much waiting is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus worth to everyon

I will wait until another 4.0 device with a 4.65" screen @ 720p (or equivalent of 4.3" viewing area) is released on Verizon. Until then, I am sticking with the hand me down phone I have now until the Galaxy Nexus comes out.

So in other words, I'm waiting for this thing, as frustrating as it is.
