How resilient is the matte finish on my Hero? Do I need a case?

I have the one with the chin (not the Sprint one). It's matte black and the case is made of a nice, rubberized, soft material. I was wondering how well the finish holds up (does it chip, scratch easily, etc.)... do I need a case? I usually carry the phone alone in my pocket and usually wear jeans.

If you generally take care of your devices you should not have a problem. Now if you are prone to dropping things... get a case.
