[HOW TO] Block the latest Verizon OTA for rooted phones (IMM76D)

Hi - Looks like for some reason I had uninstalled SDM using TiBU, not frozen it. Then I came across this article. Should I reinstall and then freeze? Thanks

It doesn't really matter as long as you have it backed up otherwise you will not be able to except an OTA if you ever decide to.
Just make sure you keep it frozen or deleted while the phone is rooted.

Do you have the sdm file backed up with titanium backup?

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, it's backed up using TiBU. I was going to recover then freeze it, but if it's all the same, I'll leave it deleted and backed up.

Yeah.. you're fine then.. As long as you have it backed up in case you ever decide you need it. If you deleted and didn't backup, you would have to flash the rooted stock image in order to get the file back.

Probably not the right thread to ask, but has there been an update.zip created that can be used on Stock Unlocked/Rooted phones? I took a quick look through the threads but didn't see anything. Thanks!

No.. Just the modem/radio
VRALG7 was the latest official OTA http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...-modems-vzw-sgs3-sch-i535-updated-9-28-a.html

If you're looking for the complete package including the radios and the new baseband you need to go custom.. I recommend
Stock rooted VRALG7 Odex/Deodexed [ROM][9/20] - Stock Root Odex or De-Odex - VRALG7! - xda-developers
Or CleanROM 2.5 which is stock with some added features [ROM][9/25] - CleanROM 2.5 -★| Rebuilt From G7 Base | More Stable Than Ever! |★- - xda-developers

I'm confused at what seems to be some conflicting information about accepting this OTA on a stock/rooted/locked configuration. A couple of people have made it sound like all they had to do was use 'ota survival' in SU or Voodoo OTA RootKeeper, and they were able to accept the OTA and then restore root.
Having nothing better to do, I gave that a whack but while in Recovery I get a message that the update is not properly signed. If I choose to ignore that, it says that it's unsuccessful (some note about SystemUI.apk, apparently having an incorrect md5 or something).
Anyway, just wondering what that incorrect signature issue is all about, and whether using one of those root survival methods should work?

A little more digging turned up the reason that the sha1 checksums don't match - after rooting the phone the first thing I did was apply the WiFi patch so that I could have access to the WiFi icon in the Notification bar, which obviously updated the SystemUI.apk.

So I guess if I really want the latest OTA I'll either have to load the stock unrooted ROM, do the update and then re-root or load the updated rooted ROM and see what it has in it.

You got it  either return to stock unrooted, install OTA update, re-root OR just flash one of the custom ROMs that use the G7 baseband.... plus the G7 modem.

Is there a rooted version of the OTA update available yet? I haven't noticed anything.

I have the the notification it goes away for a bit if i just hit the home soft key. i have titanium backup and i went to freeze "sdm1.0" but its not on the list. I have an lg g2. there is a "software update MUC6.4.1.2_b02-lg" and i froze that as a guess, but i dont know if that is gonna do anything. could the sdm1.0 be called anything else ? did I get it ? thanks in advance for the help.

levi,
Why do you want to skip the OTA? LG doesn't include Knox in their release, so there isn't any downside that I'm aware of.

Anyway, SDM is apparently called some else on LG phones, but I have no idea what. Look for anything with 'update' in the name.

GSDer,
I have the VZW wifi hack and Im not about to either lose it or pay for my usage.

I did freeze the "vzw support", and the "software updateMUC" with TiBU. Im still not sure this has done the trick so if anyone has the answer I'd like to know. thanks
