i have been messing with my xoom for the better part of 8 hours now to get tethering without rooting through BT working flawlessly every time. so far i have determined that step 1 in the 1st post of this threat does not exist for my xoom ( and probably a lot of other people ). i have only been able to tether my xoom to my droid 2 Global twice in this time and go online with it. once u connect with it and have internet and u go to disconnect it, it seems you cant bring it back up. u have to start all over again, reboot both devices, repeat the steps, and HOPE that it works. iv gone through the steps over and over again and still only 2 full successful tethers. i will be working on this again tomorrow to try any find some way to get this to work right, but until then, i figured i would post my experiences and see if anybody already has a fix. would prefer not to root.

Re: [HOW-TO] Bluetooth Tether from Android phone to XOOM (NO root

ok, i confirmed that if you disable BT or disable Airplane mode or enable wifi while you have your phone tethered to your motorola handset for internet, it will disable the internet part. after which, u will need to disable the internet, unpair it, disable discoverable on both devices, disable BT on both, reboot both devices, and essentially start over from scratch and do it all over again. since my last post, i have been able to fully tether using this method twice in a row but it is a very huge pain in the rear... im hoping somebody else can help me to confirm this or maybe might have a solution to be able to reconnect the internet without starting over.

Looks like its only working with Motorola devices, hope it works with the Photon

Re: [HOW-TO] Bluetooth Tether from Android phone to XOOM (NO root

has anyone got this working on wifi xoom using evo 3d

Re: [HOW-TO] Bluetooth Tether from Android phone to XOOM (NO root

Has anyone had any luck tethering a Wifi Xoom to a Samsung Charge. I have followed the directions to a T. The devices will pair, but not connect. I have tried going to the wrench to allow it to tether and there is no tethering option there. I'm thinking the new phones have designed out this possibility of BT tethering.

Re: [HOW-TO] Bluetooth Tether from Android phone to XOOM (NO root

Doesn't seem to work on incredible either

Re: [HOW-TO] Bluetooth Tether from Android phone to XOOM (NO root

may i ask how you have it set up because for the life of me i cannot get it to work with my evo 3d.

Honestly just using the settings that it tells you. Getting that first bluetooth connection was a pain, just played around with it a bit.
The Apps don't work, only the browser and it gives a fail warning when first launched but still displays my homepage.

So I take it that my wifi xoom can't do this? I don't see Bluetooth anywhere

It works with the WiFi only Xoom too.... you just have to turn the airplane mode on first and then set the BT connection. I keep on making the same mistake with my wife's Xoom.

Re: [HOW-TO] Bluetooth Tether from Android phone to XOOM (NO root

i am pretty much waiting until motorola/google gets off their asses and updates my damn D2G. then ill be playing with this option more often. as far as i know, only Motorola android phones can do this. refer to my previous post on the bugs i found though.

Re: [HOW-TO] Bluetooth Tether from Android phone to XOOM (NO root

I used to be able to tether with my DX and xoom no problem but after, I'm guessing updates, it has become a little more problematic. I can still tether (I'm on it now!) But I have to unpair the devices and restart the xoom every time. Once I do this I get the 2 Bluetooth symbols and life is good. So....if you can get the devices paired but still don't have internet, try unpairing, restarting xoom, reparing phone/xoom and you should be good...following the op directions of course!

Re: [HOW-TO] Bluetooth Tether from Android phone to XOOM (NO root

This is a HOW-TO guide that details how to bluetooth tether your Android phone's internet to your Motorola XOOM without using any applications or rooting your phone. If done properly you should have your Android phone and XOOM connected via bluetooth and the XOOM should be using your Android phone's internet.

Please post if it works for you, and also say what phone you are using.

Devices confirmed to work:
Droid 2 (Regular, R2D2, and Global)
Droid X
Droid Pro

This has been confirmed working on a few different devices now, it allows you to share your phone's internet with your XOOM without rooting your phone or needing any extra applications

1: on XOOM, go to settings>wireless & networks>tethering and portable hotspot and make sure that "Bluetooth Tethering" is UNCHECKED, this is NOT what we want

2: on XOOM, go to settings>wireless & networks> enable airplane mode

3: on XOOM, go to settings>wireless & networks> enable bluetooth

4: on your android phone, go to settings>wireless & networks (or equivalent)> enable bluetooth

5: Make sure that both devices are discoverable, so that they can see one another, should be in settings>wireless & networks>bluetooth settings

6: on XOOM, go to settings>wireless & networks>bluetooth settings>select your phone in order to pair it with your XOOM

7: a box should pop up on both devices, select Pair on both devices

8: on XOOM, once the pairing is complete (still inside bluetooth settings), select the phone, it should say paired but not connected underneath it

9: The two devices should connect, once connected there should be a wrench next to the connected device, clicking on this will show an option to tether, click this option if it is not automatically enabled

10: TA-DA, if it worked then in the bottom right hand corner of your XOOM should have two bluetooth icons, one should indicated that your bluetooth is turned on and the other should say bluetooth tethered, you are now using your phones internet data plan on your XOOM, aka not counting towards your xoom's data plan
If anyone is interested I tethered my Droid 3 to my Asus Eee Pad Transformer (tf-101b) via bluetooth and is is working beautifully. I haven't done any extensive testing yet but I am able to access the internet, check my email, Skype all while in airplane mode so my only connection is over Bluetooth to my Droid 3 phone. So far it seems to be a very stable connection. This is the way all phone - tables should work and the carriers should be ashamed for trying to block something which we are paying the for. I would love to see someone start a class action suit against all the phone carriers for charging extra for internet access from our phones to our other devices. Imagine if the cable companies tried to get away with something like that! They would be drummed out of business.

I get the same thing. I'm using Droid 3 and xoom and I connect and tether fine the first time but if I disconnect then try to reconnect it connects fine but no tether. So I restart xoom, connect again and then it works fine. But have to do this every time I reconnect. Any ideas would be appreciated

Re: [HOW-TO] Bluetooth Tether from Android phone to XOOM (NO root

there is no fix to this without apps or root or whatever. i have tried all i can think of for hours. but on the bright side, its nice be able to do this and simply restart to do it again than not having it at all.
