[HOW-TO] Bluetooth Tether from Android phone to XOOM (NO root or app required)

Ya I ahd the same problem with my X it connects for about 3 seconds then says it is paired but not connected but when I try to transfer a file it transfers fine but when I tried to use the internet it says no network available. I tried this the day I got my Xoom so I thought it did not work. Nice to know there is hope. I even tried to pair it and use PDA Net but that failed as well.

did you make sure to "connect" the devices by selecting it on the xoom rather than the droid x

when i tried selecting "connect" on my droid 2 it didnt work either, but when i selected "connect" on the xoom it worked

So here is the process for tethering an iPhone to the Xoom:

Jailbreak iPhone
Get MyWi 4.0 from Cydia
Put Xoom in airplane mode
Turn on bluetooth on Xoom
Turn on bluetooth within MyWi on iPhone
Initiate pairing on Xoom
Click the tool button on the Xoom on the line for the paired iPhone
Switch on tethering
Cancel your verizon data plan

Everything works fine until I get to step 8, it shows "connecting" for a few seconds and then goes back to paired but not connected.

Yes I am selecting my DX from my Xoom.

try this, I will break down what i did step by step

1: on XOOM, go to settings>wireless & networks>tethering and portable hotspot and make sure that "Bluetooth Tethering" is UNCHECKED, this is NOT what we want

2: on XOOM, go to settings>wireless & networks> enable airplane mode

3: on XOOM, go to settings>wireless & networks> enable bluetooth

4: on your android phone, go to settings>wireless & networks (or equivalent)> enable bluetooth

5: Make sure that both devices are discoverable, so that they can see one another, should be in settings>wireless & networks>bluetooth settings

6: on XOOM, go to settings>wireless & networks>bluetooth settings>select your phone in order to pair it with your XOOM

7: a box should pop up on both devices, select Pair on both devices

8: on XOOM, once the pairing is complete (still inside bluetooth settings), select the phone, it should say paired but not connected underneath it

9: The two devices should connect, and if it works then the bottom right hand corner of your XOOM should have two bluetooth icons, one should indicated that your bluetooth is turned on and the other should say bluetooth tethered

10: TA-DA, if it worked then you are now using your phones internet data plan on your XOOM, aka not counting towards your xoom's data plan

Thank you I am writing this using this method and it worked great. I am using my droid X for internet on my Xoom.

I decided to restart my DX and now it is working. I have both BT icons in the lower right corner.

This gets my vote for a sticky....

Has anyone else attempted this with the 1st gen droid? I can get my xoom and phone to pair but when I try to connect (by pressing the phone icon on the xoom) nothing happens.

Any thoughts?

Now that this works between my DX and Xoom I am gonna have to try it between my son's Blackberry Bold and his Ipad.

I can't get my xoom and evo to connect. They pair but don't connect. Any suggestions?

try rebooting your devices, it worked for Live2ride883

I'm assuming this is a function of the XOOM and/or Honeycomb so I doubt it will work for Blackberry to iPad, maybe Blackberry to XOOM though

That could be true but this gives me another Xoom advantage over his Ipad. I offered him a Xoom or Ipad. Since then he keeps trying to convince me the Ipad is the better choice.

I changed the title of the thread and added the step by step to the first post, hopefully it isnt too confusing

No dice on the restart. I tried both the xoom and phone.

well you should be able to connect the two together(even if tethering doesnt work), so we need to figure out why thats not working and then once we get them connected we can see about tethering

I followed this but I can't get it to work yet....
First problem I have is that I can only pair the xoom and iPhone while I'm in the settings and the iPhone is disvoverable....
Next thing is that once I get them paired I click on enabling tethering on the xoom but it will just say connecting for a few seconds and then go pack to clock to connect ...

I'm trying to reinstall mywi right now, maybe that'll work...
