Hey.

So I have two mp3s I downloaded to my phone. On my razr and thunderbolt I would be able to see them in the music app and then settings and make it a tone, how do I do this on the nexus?

Thanks.

My guess is that you would need a third party app for this. Perhaps ringdroid is what you need. Myself, I would love to not have to use a third party app but this appears to be the only non root option.

Thanks worked great.

Now Google just needs to make their music app allow ringtone conversion.

On all android phones move the mp3 to the \Ringtone directory in the sd card/partition.

Works for notifications too by moving to the notification directory.

We found that if mp3s were in \media\audio\ringtones they weren't found. However, if we added *one* mp3 to \Ringtones, they were all found, even the ones in \m\a\ringtones. Weird.

I've found on my skyrockett that if I add an mp3 to the directory mnt/sdcard/external_sd/media/audio/ringtones it's found by my phone. I'm not fond of this "internal"/external sd thing but since when I had to do a hard reset to make ICS take, as downloading it from samsung made it modify the root directory, and doing so didn't cause me to lose any files in the mnt/sdcard directory I think I'll live with it. Hope this helps, I know the suggestions on here helped me get a ringtone back I wanted, lost it with ICS and had to record off older phone. You'd think google would just have a spot in the ringtone list that allows you to search for an audio file, maybe someday.

google search "freac - free audio converter". I've used it. it is quick - quick and easy and then just drop the m4a or whatever in the subsequent folder on the GN - i.e. Notifications or Ringtones.
