[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

great instructions! im looking to buy a nook color and following this step-by-step. but first, do i need to buy a specific version of a nook color - or will any nook color take honeycomb and the android market??

I admit to not having followed the Nook Color since I bought my own, but I don't think there are even multiple versions available for purchase. You just buy one and get after it, as far as I know.

Hi
Everything works so fine for me, but I?ve two issues the first, Market is a painfully torture, neverends downloads, I?m working with a class 4 MicroSD, but never get a full download, just a 3% per hour, like a turtle, so I?m using ADB to install apps.

I?m missing something about Market?

The other, is necesary some app to make the Bluetooth operative?

Thanks for the wonderful tutorial .

I am happy to go thru the article. The last time it was updated in Feb 2011. Is there any changes / revision in the procedure to be followed. Thanks

I just started the procces of rooting per this thread. I hit an odd snag. The first time I powered up with honeycomb I fat fingered my secrurity password for my wifi router. I cannot figure out how to login now. Every time I try to re-type my password the connect button is grayed out?

Will definitely be trying this when I get home... the only thing that bugs me is, for some reason WINImage doesn't work for me... that's why I"ve been using the other program. When I go to select the drive I want, and "restore virtual image" it doesn't find any of my drives or anything. That's why I've been using the other program. Any suggestions?
you need to run the winimage program in admin mode to get the SD card to show, I had the same issue here on windows7. Once I clicked on the admin kink the SD card showed all but instantly try that next time.

All, I wanted to share my experiences in getting my nook up and running.

1. I followed these directions with no problem up until I needed to install the android market.
2. I decided to take a break and install the amazon app market. This was simple by going to amazon and having them send an email with the app store .apk.Just follow the instructions in the email. A plus is that Amazon gives you a paid app for free everyday.
3. I checked out Install Android 3.0 Honeycomb and Market on Nook Color for help on installing adb (android developer's bridge) and the android market. I followed these instructions (make sure to just download and extract the zip file... don't try running the .exe that you can download) but ran into a problem when I plugged my nook android device. The google usb drivers weren't working and Windows XP kept thinking it was a nook color. I used these instructions at NookColor USB ADB - nookDevs for getting Windows XP to recognize that it wasn't a Nook Color device. I then ran the HoneyGApps V2 from the addictivetips site. It pushed the android market for me.
4. I have a 16gig SD card but my Nook android didn't see all the space. I used EASEUS Partition Master 9 (Free Partition Magic alternative & free Partition Manager Software for Windows PC, Workstation and Server - EaseUS.) to allocate my SD card's unallocated space to the android's partition.

Anyway, I know it is brief but hopefully this helps some of you.

OK! So I got it all up and working, thanks to the MANY helpfull posts in this thread. I've installed several apps and some book readers, etc. So...my question is, being an Andriod nubee...
How do I upload files, like .pdf's, jpg's and other useable stuff. When plugged into my PC via USB, the SD file structure is not accessable, and when I take the SD out & put it into the reader (to try & sideload) only part of the filesystem is visible and there's nowhere to put them. Do I have to use ADB to push files up to the unit? That can't be the only way. I also tried emailing files to the unit, but I can't seem to access the attachments at all.

Are there any DOCs I can read to sort it all out? Thanks! BTW HC is VERY cool and fun to play with.

Update:

OK. I figured out to goto the Market & get a file manager and an FTP server program. I use the FTP client on my PC to upload content thru the WiFi.
Is there an easier way?

Jeraboomo,

Did you use a card reader to re-partition the SD card, or did you leave it in the Nook? My Windows PC cant see the contents of the card when the NC is plugged in with USB, that's why I ask.

I keep getting an error when i try to restore the image. It says that the fie is being used by another process???

OK, Got that fixed. I had to close the folder where the file was sitting...

Now I cannot get the Market downloaded. Are there any clearer instructions? do I need to get on the internet using the Nook and download those two files from the Nook? Can I put the SD card back in my computer to do all this? Very close...please help...

I find this discussion interesting. Apparently there's a company that will sell you directly (via Amazon) a SD card ready to go (their motto: "Turn your NC into an Android tablet with the Nook2Android disk"). This way, especially if you are a tech-fearfull person, you can bypass the procedure and get a SD card already "rooted."
Here's a direct link to their (N2A ~ Nook-to-Android) site: n2a | Turning your Nook Color into a Full Android Tablet (the easy way)

I'm trying to install the market and when I get to the second command prompt about vending it says "device not found" am I doing something wrong?

Anyone else get the "Enter Password to Decrypt Storage" upon first boot?? Since there are 144 pages its a little difficult to check them all.

Having Wi-Fi problems. My Wi-Fi is found and I can input my password and then...nothing. Simply bounces between connecting, disconnected, remembered, connecting etc. I've rebooted a couple of times to the same effect.

Without the SD card, the nook logs in just fine.

Ideas?

I've been told that Honeycomb ROMs are largely unstable and functionality is poor, so I have been content to stick to Gingerbread. Is this true?

Yup, since google hasn't released the honeycomb source code yet, these ROMs aren't that great. Check out my tutorial here to see how to get CM7 Gingerbread on your nook! Most everything works, and everything works better then honeycomb (including more apps!)

I had the same problem and followed the instructions from someone on page 141 and downloaded the usb driver for the nook color and installed them. Then I went into control panel and uninstalled android and the nook devices under device manager and then hooked my Nook color back up and adb found the device and I was in business.

:)I am on stock 1.3 and it worked for me besides the version of stock runnung does not affect this as it boots from SD card
