[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

Results of trying this

scrapped 5 SD disks ranging from 2GB to 16GB. When flashing with honeycomb o4 it leaves the SD disk at 115MB - Froyo does the same.

Tried this on 4 different machines 3 Win7 and 1 Mac all with the save result. the SD disk is reduced to mere MB and I cannot reset it to 8GM or whatever. This is a major problem has there is no way that I can find that will set it to raw.

I have installed ADB also but the google usb drivers are not recognized by windows 7 at all. Its there, oh and by the way it install to the extras\google folder if you are interested not the folder you have described

Probably a stupid question but I'm new to android
Will 3.0 work on other android tablets like my MID M-002 not just the nook?
Just wanted to make sure before I destroyed it

It won't completely work on any of them including the Nook. Only those tablets that came with HC will work properly.

Question:
about to root my new BN Color Nook, directions pretty straightforward..thanks

The memory stick:
Is it advantageous to get a large Micro SD card , say 16G or 32G for memory "storage" of music, books etc?

Could the memory card be partitioned to contain the Honeycomb android os, and a partition for just data?

thanks

btw: memory really expensive still, kind of surprising....

Hi,
Just reformat those cards! Simplest way is to start nook normally and insert the SD cards and reformat them.

I did this a couple of days ago, with my wife's Nook Color, and every now and then the NC hangs up at the screen where Android is on the side, with the flashing cursor.

Sometimes restarting fixes it but quite often that doesn't work and I have to start over. Any suggestions??

I used a Samsung Class 2 - 16 gb microSD card. It was the only extra microSD card that I had, at the time.

Yes, get another card. Most are using a sandisk class 4. Class 2 is probably too slow no matter what brand you use. Sandisk class 4 cards seem to be faster than the class 6 of other brands.

I ran into two different issues when I tried these steps for honeycomb root for my nook (which was successful),

1. But after booting to honeycomb, it would not connect to any wireless networks. I have tried with multiple networks (secured/non-secured) with no luck.

2. When I connect rooted nook to my win7 computer (which is recognized by my laptop), and run the adb commands; I keep receiving the error 'error: device not found'

Any suggestions please?

Ran the OSX Instructions to get the image on a 16GB Card which seems to work. Boots up great... seems to work everywhere...

2 Issues... I do not get at all how to install the market... Do you download something TO THE NOOK or to the Mac? Those files I mean?

Also, Android does not recognize that their is an SD card inserted so I can d/l anything. Anyone else?

Questions:
When I boot to HoneyComb via the SD Card, I cannot download anything because it does not recognize that there is a SD Card inserted? Anyway to fix this?

I am using OSX and have no clue on how to get the Market on there... I downloaded the files, but what then? How do I install ADB? on the Mac? I have a 16GB SDCARD...

Lastly, Youtube Videos from the site... Anyway had them work? If you have HQ on it gives and error and if you turn it off you get a black screen only.

Hello,
I followed the procedure (with linux instead of mac, but we share the same dd tool). However, when I inserted the sd card, the nook booted as usual (==like without the sd) and then simply told me there was an unrecognized card that needed to be formatted.
Anybody has any idea of what is going on?

Will, thanks for sharing your skills with guys like me. I was able to get V04 running and now I am struggling to load Market. When I enter the first command (adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system) I get a message that ( -o ) is invalid. Is it a dash or a minus and is it an Oh or a zero? Thanks again!

Hi all -
I am having some serious issues.
First - I followed the directions. I used a 16G drive - I don't know what class. It then became a 115MB SD card. Formatting the drive did nothing. Thinking I'm screwed, I went out and bought a new 16G class 4 drive. After getting the same errors that many others have gotten with the WinImage (error #5) and finding out that this drive too is now 115MB I was at a loss.
I did the MiniTool program. I'm using Win7. It sees that the drive is 16G and a whole lot that is unpartitioned and whatever else it has. But after all the attempts to get it back to a 16G drive, I'm still at a loss. First and foremost I want to get my two 16G drives back. Then I'll try to figure out a new or other way to root the Nook.
I see many other posts asking for help - but I don't see too many responses that actually help. I've looked through the 37+ pages - but I must not be seeing what would help me restore my drives before re-attempting to root the nook.
Thanks, I do appreciate any help that I can get.

How to fix your micro sdcard

for the people who keep saying they ruined sd cards and they are only 115 meg. you need to delete the partitions. programs like partition magic or there are many others. on partition magic just right click on the partitions and hit delete and then apply your changes. BAM your card is right back to normal or as normal as it was before you started. your cards are not ruined only partitioned and you can only see the 115 meg. partition. just google it

I had the same problem and it's something to do with either security in Win7 when formatting the card, or just the format function all together. When I performed a Quick Format in a Windows XP laptop, it formatted no problem.

This also explains if you are having problems getting the image on the SD Card to work. Most likely you'll put the image on the SD Card (using the Win7 machine) and when trying to boot the Nook with the new image on your SD Card, it with just blink "Android _". During the image process if the Win7 machine cant properly format, it will not push the image correctly. After several times attempting this, I switched to my WinXP laptop and 10 minutes later I was running Honeycomb on my Nook Color flawlessly.

Best thing to do is copy and paste the commands into your command prompt window. Works like a charm!
