[How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone)

yeah i tried the 1st way and with my phone w/out the battery i ran it and it only got to
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> SPH-D700-EB13-8Gb-REL.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/003> Initialzation..
<ID:0/003> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/003> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/003> param.lfs
and then my phone shut off and odin hasnt done anything, help plz thanks in advance

First take your battery out and leave it out of your device.

Then hook up your device via cable to your computer (leave the battery out)

Then attempt to boot into download mode and run Odin once again.

Other options to try, is remove your sdcard and turn off all antivirus on your computer

ugh now its stuck on recovery.bin and havnt moved in minutes the top box says recovery, should i just retry it?

Are the proper drivers installed (do not assume they are based on the fact you could transfer files back and forth)
Are you using a pc or laptop?
if pc use ports in the back of the computer.... Did you happen to flash firmware for another phone at any point ?

i believe so i installed the samsung mobile driver v1.3.8(on multiple occasions)
unfortunetly im using my laptop because my computer is still packed from our move
i had tried running syndicate rom but forgot to unroot and re-root to get clockworkmod 3.something and thats why im here

Laptops are unreliable when using odin, are you making sure that the laptop is plugged into the wall outlet?

is pulling out your computer going to be a big problem. my suggestion would be to pull it out if possible

if that doesnt work contact me and we will try to install heimdall which is a little more resilient than Odin but not as simple.

ugh so luckily i found it right away set everything up, drivers and odin but everytime i connect my epic to it,but the pc says unrecognizable device everytime i plug it in :/

when you plug it in you are in download mode?

yup, firewall turned off sd card out and battery out, tried all 7 ports

we will try the laptop, but if you could hook up the pc maybe doing a windows update would help

for some odd reason odin decided it was going to work (im not complaining) are there any roms you recommend, or what to get/use on the epic

I have already used it once, I just upgraded my wife's Epic from old Froyo DK28 to EC05 last night. Works beautifully.
