How to fast-forward/rewind on BT headphones?

So, I've been using iPods and mp3 players for music since the late 90s and only recently have I begun to consider that I may have to transition to using my phone, a Nexus 5 running Android 6.0.1, as a music player. But one thing I can't figure out is how to fast-forward or rewind within the same song.

Let's say you're in the middle of listening to a song or a podcast, then you have to take your headphones out for a second and then you want to rewind to hear the part you missed. Is there a way to do that without having to pull your phone out and use the screen? It seems like all the BT headphones I have only let you skip forward or back an entire song.

Don't tell me the simple acts of fast-forwarding and rewinding are now just a relic of the past! That would mean my Walkman from the 90s playing a casette tape has features that my fancy smartphone and BT headphones don't.

It does seem stupid to not have this feature, kudos to you.

I just fear that one day, they'll stop making dedicated music players (of which the iPod seems to be the only one left) and we'll hall have to use our smartphones with BT headphones, as even headphone jacks seem to have gone out of style. :(
