[How To] First time ╰╮╰╮ROOTING╰╮╰╮ walk-through 4/28/11

Unrooted my phone, ran the OTA update. Update completed....phone rebooted and I continued to get that error. Wasn't running any custom ROMs or anything of that nature. It was just a simple one click root.

Flash CWM via odin, and fix permissions in the advanced menu. If that doesn't help I would Odin the stock rom, or the debloated deodexed and see if that helps. Keep us posted. I'll check up on you tomorrow.

Actually the problem is caused by the google search widget, uninstall it, then reinstall to patch the problem. You probably forgot that you semi-debinged.

Got everything back up and running. Thanks for the suggestions. Why oh why must VZW Bing this phone up so bad....

I'm still not sure of the fascination with google. I'm not attached enough to care about the bing presence. All bings aside it's still the best phone on the shelf right now.

Can we get a new sticky with instructions on how to simply root this? I don't want to root and install a new ROM right now...just plain root so that I can install Titanium. I don't want to debing or debloat....just plan old root. These instructions worked great previously, but now it seems wannabe rooters are getting pointed in 10 different directions on how to root stock Froyo. The ADB method doesn't seem to work reliably anymore either. Or is there at least a Rooted stock Froyo ROM? I don't mean a Rooted, debloated, debinged...just plain rooted stock Froyo.

This is exactly what I'm looking for as well, but I haven't had any luck finding anyone who's written anything. I want to update to 2.2 but don't want to lose the sole thing I rooted for on 2.1 - wireless tether. Outside of that, I don't care.

So I second this question - is there simple instructions on rooting this thing after the 2.2 update?

I could use some assistance. I have odin'd cwm-recovery-ALL.tar to my fully stock ED01 phone. when I press and hold vol down+up+power, I get the samsung logo twice but it only boots up into android system recovery, not CWM. Any help?

woops i think i need to be using CWM-3-30-fix huh..?

Edit: That worked...sorry for being stupid.

Well I was able to boot up into CWM only once after initial flash..wth? :( Seems like it didnt stick!

Nope. As long as you are running a stock kernel you will continue to lose the cwm-all. You have to flash a custom kernel onto your phone in order to have the cwm-all stick.

Seems to work fine now, I flashed cwm again, then flashed the community rom. Now i can boot into cwm everytime. thanks Landshark.

LandShark, you are the man! OK so for anyone else who wanders along, here's what I did:

First, Go get drivers: Here

Next, go get Odin: Here

Now that you have those two, you will need the two files listed at the top of this thread (CMW Recovery and the SU-busybox.zip): Here

Then, as described in the last link above, go to this thread and using odin, flash the phone with the su-..busybox.zip file. The phone will shut off at this point. After that, go back to this thread and pick up at the DO NOT ALLOW YOUR PHONE TO TURN ON section.

As far as I can tell this isn't really intrusive and doesn't appear to have made any changes to my phone aside from simply rooting it.

Massive thanks to LandShark who pointed me in the right general direction. Just took some time to figure out all the details above.

Hopefully this helps someone else.
