How to fix: Data Connectivity Problem - a secure connection could not be established

I have factory reset my old Archos 101 tablet to erase all my old data and apps. When switched back on and connected to wifi, I can access Google, however, every time I click on any website address, an error message pops up every time and I cannot access anything on Google. The error message is:

Data connectivity problem - a secure connection could not be established.

It works fine in every other way. Internet connected fine. It is an old tablet but I dont understand why it doesn’t work after a factory reset.

Welcome to Android Central! It most likely has to do with the extremely outdated OS version that tablet is presumably stuck on. Very old devices will have issues visiting modern websites.

Hi, is there any way of fixing this issue? Or would I just not be able to use the internet on it again? Thanks

I don't think so. That device is presumably still on Android 2.2, so not much will work on it.

Is there anywhere I can send this tablet to be recycled? It’s virtually brand new but I can’t even download apps on it now so it is useless

I recently donated a few old tablets to Computers with Causes: https://www.computerswithcauses.org/tablet-computer-donations.html. Not sure if they'd accept a tablet as old as yours, but it's worth a try. You'd have to pay for the shipping yourself, but can include the shipping cost as part of your tax deduction.
