How to fix poor Evo bluetooth reception

My Evo on Android 2.1 performed terribly with my Jawbone Icon bluetooth headset. I know that the headset was fine, it worked great with previous phones. Now, on Android 2.2 (froyo) it is still terrible, maybe even worse!!! Bottom line, if I'm not holding the device under 4 feet away from the bluetooth headset it won't work. If I set the device down I might gain a few more feet but nowhere near the bluetooth specs of 30+ feet.

Anyone know a way to fix this? Anyone else tried pairing the Evo with a bluetooth headset?

On a positive note, I can do voice dialing now- I like that, when the reception is well enough to carry on a conversation.

I have a Bluetooth headset for my motorcycle helmet, and its unusable...I used it for music, and it would just cut in and out constantly. It was ok on my iPhone, it did cut out, but only occasionally.

The headset was only like 2-3 feet away from the evo.

I have an S305 Motorola blue tooth stereo headset and a Motorola H17. Both work great with my EVO.
I just wish my 4G reception was better.

CouchFisher, have you had any problems with you wifi reception range as well? I ask this because the Bluetooth and WiFi share the same chip, and antenna and I am trying to narrow down what the problem could be.

I have the problem where both are very weak. My roommate's Evo works substantially better and I took it into Sprint where they told me it would need to be replaced since they couldn't fix it. If its a hardware problem thats really the only solution.

I also have the Icon and I thought it was just some weird interference but I get terrible bluetooth connectivity (as well as WiFi). In fact, if I turn on bluetooth on my phone and headset, it takes anywhere from 5 seconds to 20 seconds to even connect, even if I hold the devices a few feet apart.

However, once it's connected it's pretty stable although can get a bit fuzzy if I walk around with the phone in my pocket. I was hoping 2.2 might fix this so your post isn't very reassuring.

Try turning off WiFi yet. I have both on admit seems to work now in 2.2 without issues. And the skips I do get are from connecting to WiFi as I pull up in the driveway.

Units I use are S9Hd and eclipse cd5030. Wife also has a pair of S9HDs and I have heard no complaints other than initial dirt time pairing. Charging seems to fix that problem.

I have not noticed any issues with the WiFi performance. It is comparable to my previous phone. The WiFi connection sometimes doesn't re-establish so I have to disable/enable it to get the connection to come back but that typically does not appear unless I'm coming in and out of different WiFi networks. I haven't pinpointed exactly what causes that. I will say this, with Froyo the reception meter for the WiFi appears to be a lot stronger than before.

My JB Icon work well, when it connects....i can be on a call, end that call and attempt to start a new one and it will connect 50% of the time.

I have paired my EVO with my Plantronics 975 BT headset and it works fantastically. I can set my phone down and go to the other side of the house and it still works. Now if I get to far then yes it starts getting crakly and out of range. Otherwise it works great. It pairs super quick when I turn it on too.
I have 2.2 but I have not used the voice dialing yet. can't wait to try that one, i just didnt have time this weekend tp play with it.

As far as my wifi goes on my EVo I have my router basically sitting next to my alarm clock, so if im on my bed and of course can touch my alarmclock from my bed I only get like 3 or 4 bars when I think I should have full bars because I'm sitting right next to my dang router. I rarely use my wifi in other parts of the house so I am not sure of the range but I would be willing to bet it would poor based on my experience I just listed above. My EVO screams when Its connected at home , its scary fast !

My EVO has poor BT compared to my HTC Mogul. I'm using the Plantronics 855. its a great stereo headset. I know because I have it paired with my gaming rig to run comms thru Ventrilo.

It must be the phone. Here is how bad my reception is on my EVO.

1. I must at all times keep my headset attached to the ear that corresponds with the front pocket in which the phone resides.

2. Also even if the headset and pockets are correct, I cannot turn and look towards that direction. Once the headset clears my shoulder I drop signal and disconnect.

3. No talking while walking with purpose. Disconnection occurs whilst I walk slightly faster than normal. Example crossing a parking lot.

4. If I'm going to stream radio clearly the phone must be positioned no more than 8ft away. A direct line of sight must be established. I cannot turn away from the phone. Walking past the phone earpiece must face the phone. Turning back the way I came from will drop connection.

Is it safe to say maybe my radio needs a tune up... or I need an exchange.

Eversince the 2.2 update hit my Bluetooth to my Plantronics BackBeat headphones have been amazing. It skips once when I restart the song (which I found out that was an issue with the DoubleTwist app and not the Bluetooth). I work out, run, and move around fine. No skipping like it did on 2.1.

I have a jawbone icon as well and when I first connect it works fine but range is less then 15 ft but it seems as the day goes on it gets worse and sometimes dissconects within a couple feet, dont get it. I had a prime that worked great with my blackberry but did this same thing with my evo and thought it was going bad so I bought the icon and am having the same problem. Not sure whats at fault here, very frustrating.

I have the Moto H17txt and it is fantastic with the EVO. Te other day I parked my car in front of the Post Office and left my phone in the cup holder, walked inside, went to my PO Box and never lost connection.

I also have the Motorola h17txt and it works really well. No issues with static, and range is fine. Phone stays in my pants pocket and I can answer calls, talk, and voice dial without issue. The only issue is if I end a call and try to make another too quickly the headset will sometimes disconnect but it reconnects right away. I really like the text to speech feature, too.

I have a problem with bluetooth as well. If I have my phone in my pocket, the audio gets fuzzy. I even replaced my plantronics 975 with a new one, and still get the same results. FYI this was both before and after the 2.2. update, for me.

Has anyone had any success with Sprint replacing their EVO for crappy bluetooth quality?
