how to get 5.1 on my 2012 Nexus 7

5.0.2 was downloaded several months ago (and continues to be) and I have ignored it. If I let it load, will it then download 5.1? Is there a way to get to 5.1 directly?

i believe so. Or you can search for the proper zip for 5.1
