How to get message vibration/sound on different modes.

Ok, this is pretty frustrating.

I want my messages to use ONLY sound when on sound mode, and ONLY vibrate when on vibration.

You'd think it's as easy as just pressing the sound/vibration key on the drop down menu, but it's not. I've looked into different threads here and none of them have given me the answer, I know there are two settings - one in the Settings > Sounds and one in the Message menu.

The thing is, the one on the message menu is a switch that just makes SMS vibrate no matter what mode I choose, while in the settings, my vibrate "volume" is cranked all the way up, but if my "always vibrate" in the messages is ticked off, NOTHING happens when I get a message.

So if someone can please explain to me how can I get what I want, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I solved this with an app called settings profile. I believe there is still a free version. It lets you set profiles to control all of the sound and vibration settings (and a bunch of other things, like screen brightness, radios, screen timeout, specific sounds, data syncing, etc.). You can manually change profiles (when I go into a movie theater, for example, I select the vibrate profile), but you can also automate profiles based on location, time, connection (cell tower, wifi, BT) and a bunch of other conditions and rules.

My vibrate profile has all sounds turned off, and I've never heard a peep when I have that profile set.

Well I'd like to do the profile swithcing on the fly (with the stock drop-down menu).. is there not any other way? :/

It's not what I'm looking for, I'd just like the phone to vibrate on both sms/voice calls when I set it to vibrate with stock software, or a market app that fixes that stock software to do what it's supposed to do in the first place.

It's not the stock drop down, but Settings Profile has a widget you can put on your home screen to do the profile change on the fly, in two taps. (One on the widget, one on the profile you want.)

Setting Profiles was great until the last update made it so that you can't have the ringer volume up and notification volume off. Quick Profiles is less flashy, but does the trick and is what I'm using now.

I hadn't really noticed that, but it's not a problem for me.
