[How-To] Guide to rooting with software version LS670ZVD (OUTDATED)

My first AC Forum post.

I have gone thru 28 pages of this thread. I am still trying to figure out why one has to go "up" to SW version ZVD after reverting back to V9. What does the newer version buy you? Can you not remain stuck with V9? Or do you then have to deal with bothersome OTA update reminders?

Thanks.

The updates consists of Radio/Baseband, Linux Kernel, and Android. Sometimes you can mix/match, sometime you cannot. Depends on the changes.

Between V9 Radio/Baseband, and VC/VD Radio/Baseband, an incompatible change was made in the Radio/Baseband. So a VC/VD Kernel/Android no longer worked with a V9 Radio/Baseband.

If you want any of the latest ROMs based on VC/VD Kernel/Android to work 100% then you need to have either the VC or VD Radio/Baseband.

Now if you just want to run stock V9 software or a custom ROM based on V9 software, then there is no need to upgrade to VD, unless there is something in the VD Radio/Baseband that improves your experience (like some undocumented signal improvement) or in the VC/VD Kernel/Android (like fixing the SD card unmount problem)

IMO unless you need the SD card fix (the SD card problem only affects some SD cards) or want to run the latest custom ROMs, then sticking with V9 is fine.

You will get nagged all the time, but there is a workaround for that. Just click More Info, then pull you battery. It'll stop nagging you.

i just bought my optimus s the version on it now is LS670ZVD do i start with part 2 im a little confused on that
Yes you need to follow Part 2 (revert to V9 and install custom recovery) first, then you can choose Part 3 (root with custom ROM) or Part 5 (root with stock ZVD software)

Thank you for this wonderfully simple explanation. Now here's my newbie follow-up question.

If I (a) revert to V9 using the guide in your sig, (b) root using z4 per the first post of this thread, (c) Flash one of the 2 Custom recoveries (d) Use LG Mobile Support Tool to update to ZVC (my current version) SW:

-> I would have a rooted ZVC phone.

Please let me know if I am on the right track. I dont want to go all the way to ZVD as I would like to keep wireless tethering.

Thank you for your help.

You are pretty close, except LG Mobile Updater will only update you to the latest software, which is ZVD. If you want ZVC, then you'll need to use KP500 to specify you want to use the ZVC cab file rather than have the LG Mobile Updater tool download the latest from the net.

Need some help.I have tried the steps to revert to previous software and get error C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\LGMOBILEAX\image\header_bg.gif was not found various times. I have deleted and reloaded the lg mobile support tool various times and I can open the program remotely it tells me my software is up to date. But during the actual process I get that message. I do not know what I am doing wrong your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Usually that error means you didn't install LG Mobile Updater tool prior to running KP500, but you mention you installed (and reinstalled) multiple times.

Try searching your C: drive for the folder "LGMOBILEAX" Possibly some funky install placed it somewhere else. If you find it somewhere else, then copy it to the location above so the other tools can find it.

Thanks for the feedback, I reseted the usb and it worked. Want to say thanks to for all the great information and advice.

what the hell is going on here. ive downloaded and uninstalled a million times. when i nav to c:/programdata/LGMOBILEAX/image the folder is empty? what is going on? i dont understand. im not noob to this stuff, but this makes no sense. running win 7 ultimate.

I have a question. So pretty new to the root community. Had my optimus S rooted before ZVC came out, I used Z4 root. I lost that phone now have one running VD lol VD and I've yet to find a one click root process to be successful. I'm skeptical of my own abilities to set up the ADB tool directory path to create a "Development Environment." That's out of my league. Any simpler processes out there yet or is the ADB tool directory process that difficult to mess with? Anything I can research to become knowledgeable or is there just HOPEFULLY a simple process.

For me personally isn that diificult to use but if you still dont want to use it you can always use this thread http://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-...ing-ota-ls670vc-vd-using-kp500-diag-mode.html to get to V9 so you can root and install a custom recovery then use lg updater tool to get back to VD

Was there an error when you installed the LG Mobile Updater tool? Does the tool recognize your phone?

Prior to your post and the one a few posts above yours that problem has always been related to install issues with the LG Mobile Updater tool.

I guess it is possible win7 is playing tricks and installing stuff in different folders. You can try searching your C: drive for the LGMOBILEAX folder.

If you figure out what went wrong, please do update so it can help others.

I didn't think I could root my new phone but thanks to all of you and this amazing post I did! Kudos to all. Thank you!
