I did ... I downloaded the LG mobile application but it never recognized my phone. so its safe to say Im on step one.
It would be easier if you included the link to the post you are following along with where you are stuck. Otherwise we'll have to slowly extract answers and it'll take longer to get you where you want to be.

Which operating system is your PC running?

Have you installed the USB drivers?

If so, when you plug in the phone, do you hear any USB sounds?

If so, have you enabled USB debugging in the phone menu->settings->applications->development->usb debugging

are there any videos on how to do this I've been trying all week and have nothing but anger to show for it. I don't know what developmental tools are ... why can't I just put a rom on my phone and have it work?
Many things seem hard the first time, but after you get through everything once, in hindsight it isn't that bad plus you learned a lot in the process. Doing the rooting and flashing is like that. Sometimes you get stuck on a step but after you get past it, everything just cruises along. If this is something you really want, I suggest taking a deep breath and don't get so emotional. People with no experience at all have been able to do this. Just have to be methodical and take it one step at a time.

Hi All

Thanks for this wondeful howto. I manage to root my phone after reverting back to V9 and installing a custom recovery etc. Also did the update to VD using the LG s/w tool. However, in the settings, it shows the s/w version as LS670ZVD but the baseband version as LS670MV9_6040. As a result, I still get popups to update to a 'later version ZVC' every now and then. Also, I get 'your phone is not activated' error. Any ideas on what could have gone wrong ? Should I redo the whole procedure or just a part of it. I now have Xionia CWM custom recovery.

Thanks a ton.

Which version did you want to end up at? ZV9 or ZVD? Did you flash a custom ROM after installing ZVD with the LG tool? If the last thing you did was update to VD using the LG tool and the baseband version says MV9, then the update to VD wasn't successful. Was there any error message?

That is indeed strange. The thread about reverting to V9 also has the VD cab which can be force flashed with KP500. My first suggestion would be to force flash VD (on top of what you have now) and re-root.

EDIT: Never mind, I would force flash VD on top of itself and see what happens. I don't think there's any need to revert to V9 at this point.

Thanks. Now all is well after I force flashed using KP500. Both the baseband and software versions are showing ZVD.

XP | I think ... How will I know? | I do | Yes.

The LGMobile Support application works and now reads my phone; however, I get this; "The Cell phone is the latest version already. So you don't need to update."

And then I get the message to disconnect my phone ... and I do, then nothing happens.

Great, now you can follow part 2 of the instructions and revert to ZV9, install CWMA recovery, and then reinstall ZVD using LG Mobile Updater.

Strange. I seem to have lost root or atleast the 'su' apk. Titanium backup was complaining about not having root and so I tried with the terminal emulator as well. Can't get root prompt.

Can I root now w/o going back to V9? Using the LG mobile tool or KP500 is a pain for me since I dont have a single windoze m/c @ home.. Have had to borrow a friend's laptop twice already :(

So stupid of LG to have the updater program only for windoze and nothing for linux while they are making millions selling linux phones.

thanks in advance.

If you followed the directions and installed CWMA recovery, then getting root back is just one update.zip away. Just run the flashable root zip from the ZVD root thread from recovery.

so I am a bit confused. I have V9 but want to run VD. Is there a zip file of a modified version of VD that I can flash through recovery and update but keep root or Do i have to use the lg update tool thing?

as far as i know you have to use the lg update tool, its not that hard to do though it just takes a good 20 minutes or so. After that you either flash a custom rom or just run a few command lines

EDIT: After reading the first post for the first time in a month it looks like you can now flash a .zip to update. When i did mine that wasn't an option so i cant really help you out with that.

so now I feel pretty stuck...

I reverted, rooted, and made my back up.
Now that I've upgraded back to version "ZVD" I have lost my permission in the command prompt and am stuck in the '$' prompt of adb shell

help?!

You should still be able to boot into your custom recovery and restore your nand backup as long as you used the LG Update tool to upgrade and not the OTA method. When you restore your nand, you will still be on ZVD. (You need to make sure your ROM is compatible with ZVD.)

Yeah your right, I don't know what the hell was wrong. I loaded up my recovery and am patching in my new ROM as we speak! :)

Great directions thanks a lot for the quick support too!!!

That flashable zip isn't to get you VD.

It is to save you the trouble of typing in the commands to install su, busybox, and Superuser.apk

You still need to use the LG Mobile Updater to update to VD as that is the only way to get the VD radio/baseband.

Im confused, If I have a custom recovery, does that mean I am rooted?

Maybe, maybe not. Technically, if you were rooted and had a custom recovery on zv9 and then force flashed zvd, you are no longer rooted, but still have custom recovery. But to be rooted, all you have to do then is say flash a rooted rom using your custom recovery, like TR, and then you are rooted. Alternatively, you could also handle one of the XXXRootVD files as directed on the first post of this thread, and then be rooted.
