I got around that message by using KP500 to force the update to ZVD.

You mean like using the bootloader to update, like my other htc evo with a pc3600.img, but use kp500 for this lg phone? Is there a thread on how to do this? I'm kinda a newbie with lg phones.

We don't have an unlocked bootloader for Optimus S currently.

KP500 is a front-end to LG's flash tool.

You can use the revert instructions in my signature. There are sections in the reference section for substitutions to make to flash any version of the software. Skip step (u) if you aren't rooting.

Need help rooting VZD

OK, so I've read the guide that is stickied numerous times and spent two, completely forgettable, hours staring down my laptop ready to pull my hair out trying to root my phone. I need the 'I don't know what the hell I'm doing guide'. What the hell does flashing mean? Command prompt isn't working, recovery image? Am I just a moron? All I want is a new ROM. I've looked on YouTube with no luck. Can someone walk me through it? The guide is hard to understand for me. Like what is Xonia and why do I need to download five things when on my Ally all I did was Z4. Is there an app like Z4 that will do it for me? God I miss ROM Manager.

Thanks!

If you post on the thread with where in the guide you are having problems someone will help.

Hi,

I reverted to V9 without a problem. I rooted via Z4root without a problem. However, when I use adb shell, I don't get the # to flash the custom recovery. So I tried rooting my rooted Optimus via adb instructions, and still don't get the # in the adb shell. I was able to verify root access by changing the pixel density to 140, and running SetCPU.

Since I couldn't flash the recovery from my rooted ZV9, I updated to VC and tried to root via adb (using the sd card path). However, the root would not take, and I never got the # in the adb shell.

Finally, I am back on ZVD without root. Now, when I try to force ZV9, my Samsung updater keeps getting a fatal error and has to close.

I suppose the custom recovery module is an absolute must?

If you want root in ZVD, the custom recovery (or stock V9 recovery) is a must.

When you run "su" for the first time to get th "#" prompt, you need to turn on your phone and make sure it isn't on the lock screen, then type "su" in adb shell, then look on the phone screen for a prompt asking for root privileges and accept that prompt.

As to the updater tool crashing, try rebooting your PC.

only read the first post of this thread and have taken all necessary steps to prepare for the rooting process (just waiting for my phone to charge up), only one question though:

I have the new Optimus S, came with VC (updated on the spot to VD), so its got the new LCD hardware. Aside from the screen blanking during the rooting process (as reported by others and I have read about in the other threads), can someone please confirm this works on the new Optimus S (i.e. one purchased very very recently)? Thanks

There haven't been any reports that it hasn't worked, which is not the same thing as someone saying it worked very recently, but should give you some assurances.

It is not guaranteed that you have the new LCD hardware just because your phone came with VC, but there is a reasonable chance.

If you have the new LCD hardware use Android Screencast so you can see your screen on your PC.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be rude, but I've read this guide more than once ... Like stated I spent two hours in this topic the other day with nothing to show for it ... I don't get any of this, can someone tell me exactly what I need to do ... It's a bit overwhelming.

Before anyone can help you, you need to help us understand exactly what you are having trouble with.

First, specify some environment info. Do you have the LG drivers installed? Do you have the Android SDK and Platform-tools installed?

If the answers to the previous two questions is yes, what part of the guide SPECIFICALLY do you not understand?

We're all about helping people here, but simply saying "it doesn't work" won't help. So help us help you.

I don't think you understand, I wasn't pointing you at the guide. I was pointing you at a specific post in the guide that answered your question. The forum automatically includes the thread's main title to the links one places in a post. You should click through and look at the actual posting rather than assuming I'm sending you back to the guide.

I tried with no luck ... it wont read my phone

are there any videos on how to do this I've been trying all week and have nothing but anger to show for it. I don't know what developmental tools are ... why can't I just put a rom on my phone and have it wor
k? I read the other thing and know what a recovery image is and why I need one or how to get one ... what does flash mean? I need a God damn video or something

"Flash" basically means "install". We say flash because your phone contains nonvolatile flash memory and traditionally it has been called flashing when you install low-level software onto non-volatile memory.
