No problem. Here's a helpful hint:

1) Once.you have V9 rooted, install Xionia Clockwork Recovery (CWMA).
2) Skip VC and install the VD update using the LG update tool.
3) Flash the FlashRootVD-signed.zip attached to the first post.
4) Reboot

man I still cant get the SDK to work, I can't do any adb command prompt stuff... says command(or something like that)not recognized. I am on my third computer trying again now. getting depressed :(

1) Do you have the Platform-tools installed?
2) If the answer to the above is yes, do you have the Platform-tools folder in your PATH variable?

man you are good. yes I had it installed but no I had not updated the path, I only added tools, not platform tools... to my credit I figured it out on my own just before I read your post, to my discredit I'm clearly an idiot.

The flashable zip sounds cool.

Traveling so I'm on a slow connection and reading posts out of order.

Can I ask where to get the stock ROM? I would still be on VC if I go back to stock right?
You can choose to flash whichever stock version you want. If you have the new LCD hardware, you are limited to VC or VD if you want your display working. Instructions to flash any version are in the revert thread in my signature.

I did step one, but once I tried to install the VD update, the LG update tool froze and went into lockdown (says Not Responding in title bar). I had no choice but to force close the update tool and re-try it. But my phone still thinks it's downloading something.

So I am stuck. My phone reads, "Download is in progress. Do not disconnect cable." Emergency Mode is at the bottom of the screen. Do I disconnect and hope I didn't brick...?

Please help....! :(

Doesn't seem like you have much of a choice. Pull the battery and let things sit for a minute, then try to power on again.

This guide assumes you have added the Android SDK tools directory to your PATH variable. Instructions for Windows 2000/XP can be found here. Instructions for Windows Vista/7 can be found here. With the latest version of the Android SDK, the default tools folder is "platform-tools" which is in the "Android\android-sdk-windows" folder in Program Files. With some versions of the Android SDK the default tools folder is simply "tools" which is in the "Android\android-sdk-windows" folder in Program Files. Your mileage may vary.
is the link broken for the instructions to Windows 7?

Also, correct me if I am wrong but was there not suppose to be a noob guide?

Ah, the link is in fact broken. Good job ens04, you get a star! (And a press of the Thanks button)

And I don't know how much more noob-friendly the VD rooting guide could possibly be. I've covered literally every single possible software combination, and made a flashable ZIP for those who are freaked out by the command line. Not to mention it was so flipping long I had to check with KSmith to make sure it wasn't going to go over the single post character limit.

EDIT: Vista/7 PATH instructions link fixed :)

Ok, so, I'm a newb to android. and I really need to be able to root. however I find it hard to follow this guide, For example, I don't know where to type in all these commands. I have VD btw... so... Can someone please show mesome sort of rooting for beginners guide, or something of sorts?

In my opinion, you REALLY REALLY REALLY need to learn about using the command line, as well as learning how to use ADB. There are tons of great tutorials online that can be found just by searching Google or whatever search engine you use.

Rooting and other related things are advanced procedures that modify your device and void your warranty so you need at least some knowledge of what you are doing before doing it.

In almost every situation of this guide, there are links to "what to do at this step". Just open whichever one, and read through the post, if your not comfortable with what it's saying, post in that guide what you need an answer to. Once you have read all steps you would need to go through, then proceed from step 1 for real. This should make sure that by the time your done, you feel comfortable and knowledgeable enough to perform these steps.

I tried following other guides to get to VD, and unfortunately, I got all screwed up, but this post was able to fix me up. A giant sticky that links to all aspects necessary for rooting / roms / etc, is an awesome way to keep from having 50 stickies to go through.

Newbie needs HELP -- LS670ZVD update!

Here's the deal...just upgraded from my Blackberry to the Optimus S through Sprint yesterday. As soon as I turned on the phone, I was prompted to install an update, so I did. I've updated my phone to LS670ZVD. But now...I've been reading through the forums, and I want to install a custom ROM =( I've been reading for the past 2 hours or more but I'm just getting more and more confused. I do NOT want to brick my brand new phone.
There's so many words that I'm just not understanding...ok, I googled and researched "ROOTED". I understand thats where I need to start. But once reading about it...now I have to revert to this version and then install this and that before I can even actually being to root my phone.
Someone please point me in the right direction. Maybe tell me which threads I should read first...is there a thread for newbie dummies? LOL That explains every little thing in great detail?
Then point me in the direction to which thread I should be reading to root my completely stock LS670ZVD....
Please and thank you:)
