How to hide some folders from photo gallery?

Hi!

I have upgraded to Marshmallow on my Z3 Compact but it is very annoying that all image files in the phone are shown in the images gallery. I haven't found any options in the gallery itself to exclude folders. I tried some old tricks I found googling like putting a .nomedia file in every folder or renaming the folders to begin with "." but none on these changed anything.

Is there anything else I could try or is android just losing functionality with every upgrade?

Use a applock to lock them.

Yes, you can find an app on the play store to hide/lock certain folders and preselected images.
