Hi,
I have always wondered why people complain about battery life when there are ways to improve battery life.
Before i start let me tell you that I get about 48 to 72 hrs battery life and i have a Nexus S phone. Most of the time i get 72 hrs and some time for 4 days when i dont make a lot of calls or use my phone.

Note: Tip 2 is my biggest battery saver.

Tip 1- Reduce the battery brightness to automatic or low.
sure the screen is hard to read at bright sun light but you can increase the brightness at that time using the toggle widget. I, most of the time dont use phone outside so it works for me.keeping the settings at automatic might help. i keep it at low.

Tip 2- Make your wifi go to deep sleep mode when not in use.
here is the settings to do that. Go to Settings-->Wifi-->Menu-->Advanced-->Keep Wifi on during sleep-->[Select option Never]

This will make sure your wifi switches itself off when you dont use it for long like at night.
This saves battery at night especially. My battery drain at night is usually 1 or 2% max.

Tip 3 - Turn your data off when not in use. if you are heavy user there are app which you can schedule to switch itself off when not in use. like this 2 Apps to Automatically Toggle your Android WiFi Setting
schedule the app to switch itself off at night at least.

Tip 4 - Turn off GPS,NFC and bluetooth. you can schedule itself to switch off with apps if you need them or switch it off.

Tip 5 - Look for app that use battery the most Go to settings-->Battery to see an organized breakdown of what's consuming your phone's battery.Try looking for alternative or kill it frequently when not in use. Apps like "Advanced task killer" will help. Make it auto kill if you dont want to bother killing apps by your own. You can white list apps too.
I use pulse and it kills your battery So i have disabled it. Google current seems to uses less battery.

Tip 6 - Try switching off haptic feedback like click sound and vibrate on key press.
I have turned off sound but not the vibrating. Its your choice.

Tip 7 - Dump unnecessary home screen widgets and live wallpaper. Just because they're sitting on the home screen, seemingly inactive, doesn't mean they're not consuming power. Live wallpaper consumes a lot of power.

Tip 8 - Remove syncing for apps like google reader. i have noticed google reader takes a lot of juice for syncing. removing the sync can save 3-4 hour of battery.
I sycn when i need to or when i open it. Check for apps that use battery in your battery stat and remove the syncing if its in the syncing option.

Tip 9 - Reduce email, Twitter, and Facebook polling.
Set your various messaging apps to "manual" for the polling or refresh fequency.

Tip 10 Update your apps. Applications often get updated to use less battery power, so you should make sure your apps are up to date.

Tip 11 - Reducing the screen timeout time. you can do this by going to Settings >> Display >> Screen Timeout.

Tip 12 - Reduce Sleep time to 30 seconds. Settings-->Display-->Sleep-->30 Seconds.

If you have any tips feel free to post it here. Again its your choice so use which fits you.

The battery life may just depend on how you use the phone, for some it might not last a day but for same it would last enough. The reason for that the phone has applications running despite not being used another is that the performance of the phone is set to maximum, hence will require much battery. try to close some apps and reduce the brightness of your screen to extend the battery life of your phone, another turn it on sleep when not being used. check out also this link for other the update on droid firmware and battery life Battery drain and overheating problem with Samsung Galaxy S3. | Techyv.com

Why wouldn't you have your phone on the charger at night anyway?

With wifi off at night, all emails come through over network, which increases data usage, especially if you get a lot of emails with attachments. If you have any other auto-downloads, such as podcasts, these too can use a lot of data. You might not want to pay data overages in order to save a little battery.

It makes no sense to me not to charge the phone every night and leave wifi on to save network data use. Even if you have unlimited data, why would you want to start the day with less than 100% charge?

If a phone is not removed from the charger after reaching 100% does it cause the battery any harm?

I don't have to charge my phone every night because my battery stays for 3 days and sometime 4 days..Its saves battery on the days I dont charge!!

Checkout Tip 3 for saving data usage at night... I know network data is a concern with wifi on deep sleep and that's why its after Tip 2

Using the Samsung Galaxy S3, for some reason my battery lasts way longer if I turn it off to charge. Happened accidentally - my phone died completely, so I plugged it in without turning it on and the next day there was still about 55% left after about 18 hours use. I still have to charge it every night, but now it doesn't fall asleep before I do.
