Hi guys
So im going to get a Galaxy Nexus, But i have a doubt. Here were i live there are 2 companies, Movistar and Claro. And i want to know if the Galaxy nexus models they sell is GSM.
So basically im asking how do i tell if my phone is GSM and if it is GSM i can just root it and use roms intended for GSM phones?
Thanks

If you buy it from Verizon or Sprint in the USA, it is CDMA and LTE.

If you buy it internationally, from the Google Play Store, or from one of the many international retailers/resellers, it is GSM.

I'm not familiar with the carriers Movistar and Claro, but I'm sure you're aware of whether or not they're GSM.

If you buy a GSM model, any ROM or tool made for the GSM model will work on it. There is no difference in the GSM model hardware sold around the world.

Thanks man I really appreciate it.
Any way is there a way to manually check to see if it is GSM or CDMA?

i assume this is the website you are going to buy? Galaxy Nexus

in the spec section it says GSM. to be honest Most unlocked phones sold are GSM. check the spec for GSM or CDMA. from what i can see its GSM.

It's not a matter of checking the phone. The one from Google direct is GSM. One bought from Verizon or Sprint are CDMA. What you need to check is to see what the cell service provider uses for technology (CDMA or GSM). Just did I quick google search Claro has both CDMA and GSM networks Movistar may be just GSM I can't tell. Best thing check with both providers.

I'm pretty sure there are no CDMA Galaxy Nexuses being sold outside of the USA, at least by any official means.

The part number of the phone would also be another clue. The GSM Nexus is P/N GT-i9250. The CDMA/LTE models are GT-i515 (Verizon) and SPH-L700 (Sprint).

But like Andrew was saying, you should be getting a GSM model regardless because the CDMA/LTE variants only shipped for Verizon and Sprint (both US carriers), officially.
