[How To][Links] Themes, ROMs, Kernels, Boot Animations: 9-16-11

So when I do the backup, it will restore settings and setup features that I have done? In other words, I flash the ROM, and patch, then "semi" set up the phone (gmail, apps I regularly use, etc...) and THEN do the backup? When I restore, it will restore it just like it was when I backed it up?

Yes it will... it will be backed up (frozen in time) in all its features, apps,.. even the emails, text messages.. etc.. it will all be there.

Market updates will not happen during the times between the backup and the restore of course.

AWESOME! I will for sure do that now!!
Thanks for the advice my friend!!!

I apologize if this has already been answered. This is a bit of a hard thread to search through.

I somehow broke my boot animations while attempting to install one over commrom 1.2 using clockwork. I've since used the manual method, pulled the bootanimation.zip from the install file and placed it in system\media. Still nothing - black screen during boot up.

Anyone have any ideas on how to repair this? I made a nandroid backup before i installed the animation, but the backup dates are wonky and i'm concerned that it's not a good backup, so can't really go back using that route. the bootanimation.zip is there, i've tried multiple files, but for whatever reason the system doesn't seem to be reading it.

What you are describing is a side effect of a kernel that is not capable of running bootanimation.zip files.. If the bootanimation.zip file is present it should be playing.

The other issue may be that the bootanimation.zip files may have been corrupted or compressed in some fashion and the kernel cannot read it.

Have you attempted to flash a new boot animation after the last failed attempt? If you get a different bootanimation.zip on board that may correct the problem..

If that does not correct the issue I would suggest first restoring your back up, or reflash your base ROM if it comes to that.

i've tried multiple animations. i know the commrom kernel supports animation, as it comes with one at first.

correction to above: i didn't break it installing a boot animation, i broke it trying to install a theme (crysis theme for ed01/commrom)

browsing through the theme i don't see anything to do with boot animations. guess i'll have to do the backup.

i guess if i'm sticking with the same rom i can do a system settings backup and not have it flake out, right? not restoring system settings probably only matters when you're going from rom to rom.

Which version of Crysis did you install? Was it the one that is linked from my themes page? This sounds like there is a problem with the theme..

I just pulled the first theme apart and there is NO boot animation in that theme..

Edit: I have pulled each of the crysis themes apart and they do not include a bootanimation.zip.

There is likely some other issue not related to the theme. It is either a ROM or kernel related issue.

Do the restore and see if that gives you your boot back.

These icons are great thanks! I'm having a problem though.. I extracted them and put them in a folder called Icons but I don't know where I should put the Icons folder in order for them to display in the Gallery. All of my photos appear to be stored in a folder on my SD card called DCIM. I've tried putting the Icons folder in there..doesn't work. I also have a couple stray .jpg photos just sitting on my SD card in the top level and those display in the Gallery just fine in a folder called "sdcard". I'm thinking the problem is that all these icons are .png files and my Gallery is not automatically displaying them. I clicked on one of the .png files and it asked me if I wanted to use Gallery to open it, and I said yes and ticked the box making that the default action. But my Gallery still isn't displaying the icons.

And thank you to Littlwing16! One request for the next icon pack.. can you include the original stock icon for Applications..or some other variation? The LauncherPro grey is kind of boring with the other colored icons I use in my dock.

After a reboot the Icons folder now appears..so never mind.

Not really sure what your asking my man..

The icons should appear just as the appear in the post.. with color. The color of the icon shouldn't change if you put it in the dock.. These applications in some instances are stock.. (AOSP music and clock) ..

Technically none of the icons should be gray.. none of the ones I apply have changed..

Are you using LP free? or the paid version?

NOt sure what you meant by "stock" ...If you want to go back to the icon included in your theme or ROM just select "default icon" instead of selecting custom icon and choosing it from your icon folder in gallery.:-\

I use free LP..are there more icons in the paid version? The default icon for "Applications' in free LP is a square composed of 16 square white/gray dots. There is no other option if I want a different "Applications" icon but to choose one from the gallery..and I don't have any that are applicable. I wasn't suggesting that your icons were gray... just the ones in LP.

Check out this thread: http://www.androidcentral.com/verizon-fascinate-review

Note in the image of the stock phone there is a blue Applications icon in the dock...that's the one I'm talking about. All of my other dock icons have color, and the LP apps icon doesn't really fit in. Is there a way to get that blue one?

hey jae or someone random question do u have a flashable AOSP desk clock? all i can find is APK ? would be easier just to flash, no biggie if u dont, thanks buddy!

ED01 Community ROM~ Crysis Revolution v2.0 - thefunkbot Updated: 4/27/11
Preview 1 - Preview 2 - Preview 3 || Downloads: CommROM Theme: Regular Batt || Circle Batt -||- Edify Versions: Regular Batt || Circle Batt

Looking the OP, it says at the bottom DO NOT FLASH WITH 3.0 and also, it says that it includes SC 2.9.2 in the flash?? Am I just completely off? I LOVE the them, but Im running CWM 3.0 and the CommRom?

I just looked at the OP, and unless he changed it in the last few minutes it does not say do not flash with 3.0, it says do not flash with orange cwm. orange cwm is the cwm 3.0 that you get through rom manager. That orange cwm is not the cwm 3.0 that you get here from times_infinity. And I don't see where it says it includes SC 2.9.2 in the flash.

Like I said, I could be off! And I just assumed orange 3.0 was the new edify version...well...since it was orange! My bad.

YES...I know it just says credits, but the last thing I wanted to do was flash back to SC 292. Sorry to create "noise". I was just unsure.
