[How To][Links] Themes, ROMs, Kernels, Boot Animations: 9-16-11

I just upgraded to COMMROM 1.3 and I'm trying to reinstall the boot animation I had previously: Android peeing on Apple Boot Animation - JaeKar99

I tried manually moving the bootanimation.zip file back into /system/media but when I reboot there is no boot animation at all.

So I downloaded it again (for CWM 3.0) and attempted to flash it but it says "can't open /sdcard/download/AndiPee-Edify.zip (bad) Installation aborted"

I think there's something wrong with the file.. I have downloaded it twice now and get the same result.

fix permissions and reflash of boot animation worked for me

ok, i flashed the nitro's HC 4.3 and it made the clock/time on the status/notification bar disappear. after playing around with the settings i flashed 4.2.1 back on and its still gone. how do i get this back?

found where to get it back at.

I agree with this solution..

There should not be anything wrong with the file.. 64 downloads - and this is the first malfunction.. I have run this version on my phone no issues..

Your clock in the status bar is black text on black.. you will need to change the status bar text color to something other than black.. (from reports on XDA)

I'm running the new Nitro Honeycomb and my shutdown animation doesn't work. It starts but freezes at the top of the screen, any suggestions on how to get this to run?

Hmmm.. You can reflash the one specific to the theme - it is the blue helix shutdown from the Epic Thread..

If it still fails to run you may have permissions issues and may need to fix permissions for it to function properly.. I could not find any corrupt images in the download.

I've never fixed permissions before could you please walk me through the process?

Two ways to do it.. first adb process is detailed in this post (DroidXcon).. you will need to attach your phone to the computer and follow the steps described in the post.

The second is you can fix permissions in CWM -
Boot into recovery> you have to use the sub-menu under advanced and then select fix permissions.. That should be the easiest way to address fix permissions..

I am not certain that this is a functional feature of CWM 3-30 fix.. I know it works for CWM 3.x..

The fix permissions didn't work so I DL the shutdown animation. Now, I know I need to move it to the shutdown folder but I can't get it to work. When I went in the shutdown folder before I could see all the pics that made up the animation but when I moved the new DL to that folder I could not see anything. Do I need to extract the file then move it?

The link that was sent to you was a flashable zip file.. You should go system/media/video and delete the shutdown folder and all of it's contents.. Copying the file to the folder will not apply the shutdown.

Flash the file you downloaded..

that should correct the problems.

Thanks for the suggestions.. I fixed my permissions using CWM and then tried twice to re-flash the zip (both before and after a reboot) and got the same "(bad), Installation Aborted" message each time.

I also tried deleting the bootanimation.zip file in the media folder and then copying the AndiPee-Edify.zip file into media and renaming it bootanimation.zip. But the only boot animation I have now is "android" sideways. There are no other zip files in my media folder.

This is really bizarre it was working just fine for me in 1.2!

Any other ideas?

Nothing is working, I even DL another shutdown animation. It gets about 1 second in to the animation and freezes, any ideas?

The AndiPee-Edify.zip file is a zip flash file.. it has to be installed via CWM... renaming and copying to system/media will not resolve the problem... you need to delete that file.. It serves no purpose..

You can unzip that file and extract the "bootanimation.zip" file from the '-Edify.zip' and it can be copied to the system/media location.. that will work..

This rings of a problem with CWM... what version are you using?

Here is a new link to a fresh Edify zip.. I just ran this on my phone and it installs fine.. Link

I'm using KB which I think is ED01 and EC01 radio.

I had problems with OTB v1.4 kernel which is included with CommROM v 1.3.. I flashed back to OTB v1.3 and that corrected my problems.. This started when you applied nitro's new theme right... I am at a loss what may have caused this to go this direction.. you can try to flash the 1.3 kernel and see if that causes the animation to play through. Or you can flash back to CommROM and try to reapply the theme hopefully keeping the shutdown in play..

The radio will not affect the shutdown animation. I have seen kernels cause issues and some ROMs..

Thanks! The fresh Edify zip file worked for me. I'm using v 3.0.2.7x of CWM.. for whatever reason it didn't like that other file.

Full urination is now in effect.
