how to make Google Voice search default to Chrome and not Google Assistant

I have the Google widget on my phone which is the little bar that has a microphone. Mine defaults to Google Chrome. My friends Google widget has the Google Assistant logo rather than the microphone and always defaults to the assistant. He wants his to default to Google Chrome like mine but everything I read says he has to turn Google Assistant completely off. My Google assistant is still on and it works fine. How can I make his voice search widget default to Google Chrome and not to Google Assistant without shutting off Google Assistant completely. I hope this makes sense!

If you go into your widget drawer there are separate widgets available for Google and for Chrome, try the Chrome version and see if that works
