OK, I am having random reboot issues, and battery while generally last me through a day, is not a guarantee.

I am planning to do a factory reset like suggested by some and see what happens. but i need to know how I can make sure everything is backed up?

contacts / fb are all syned online, i imagine i won't need to do anything? how about the "link contacts" between my gmail contact and fb?

settings / apps? I have it synced with appbrain, but what else do i need so that i can restore everything when I am done with reset?

keyboard? I have both swype and shapewriter, and I think they are both off the market now? How can I make sure they are backed up so i don't lose it? (maybe back up the apk if possible?)

Thanks

Go to the market and download titanium backup, you may need to be rooted to use it though, if so just root using unrevoked.com, then with titanium backup open it, click backup/restore then menu, batch and you will see the option to run the backup.

To restore, just rout again after the wipe, get titanium backup again, follow the same steps and click on restore applications

IF you prefer not to root, you can grab ASTRO FILE MANAGER from the market to backup/restore all of your currently installed apps to/from your SD card.

You can also grab BOOKMARKS to SD to backup/restore all of your browser bookmarks.

I have used both of these as part of a factory reset and it was very smooth.

You have just one shot at it but I always at first boot up when resetting is go to Market Place/Downloads and all your apps are there. How ever if you exit before downloading all your apps it refreshes to whats currently on the phone.

Good to know...

apps backup not synced with market?

I heard that using these backup to SD method, those apps won't sync back to market

meaning updates won't be alerted , is that true?

for apps... what's the difference between that, versus re-syncing it thru app brain?

(though shapewriter and swype are not available anymore)

thanks

Note.

Titanium backup requires root, so you won't be able to restore after the wipe and update.
If you didn't update, then you can still use unrevoked method of simple root and use titanium backup.
The donation version of titanium backup allows you to restore all apps with one click instead of having to restore them one by one.

If you updated and wiped like I did, you'll have to wait for unrevoked to be patched up, which is apparently tonight.

Get a free copy of MyBackup and it backups both apps and data to your SD card. It will reload almost everything less a few widgets and a few settings (I had to reload my Exchange accounts). Overall it does a pretty good job.

It sure would be nice if there was a built in program that backed things up to the sd card. Imagine how easy it would be if you could reset the phone and then back everything back to how it was easily.

MyBackup Pro is real cheap, and backs up to both the SD card and online, giving an extra level of redundancy.

That was not the case for me when I exchanged my evo. Is it different from a new phone and a reset?

Help! ~ I've lost my bookmarks from the 'extended' screen where the bookmark images are seen **note.. all bookmarks are in the folder that can be seen when viewing on my laptop using the USB cable and setting the EVO to work as a 'storage device'.

Hence, I know the bookmarks are in the folder, I just can not 'see' them in BOOKMARKS extended screen.

How do I 'restore' the bookmarks ~ Help!

Thanks in advance!

AppBrain will sync all of your apps that you currently have installed. Just download AppBrain, login with your google account, and then press Sync.

Wipe Your Device.

Go to the market and download AppBrain, login with your google account, re sync your apps, and you will be taken to the market page for every app you had before to install. Took me less than 45 secs to click all the install buttons for my ~50 apps then just a few more minutes of waiting while they all redownloaded and installed.
