[How-To] Manual Rooting of LS670ZVH/ZVJ (+ links to root ZVD/ZV9)

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

sfhub

can you toss a dog a bone.

how can I flash stock recovery from the sd card via my custom recovery,
do I need a flashable recovery zip file,
or ?

i'm kinda lost, been looking for files and links
but I find nothing.
Are you saying you have 3 phones rooted on ZVH running gROM and your son's phone is the 4th phone?

Is it currently rooted? What version Android is it running?

What do you want to accomplish with that phone?

As to flashing stock recovery, you just place the contents *wihtin* the "copy2sd" folder from the zvhrec.zip file onto the /sdcard (perhaps by removing the sdcard and placing it in a microsd reader/writer) or by downloading the zvhrec.zip file to your phone directly.

Then you follow the directions skipping the portions up to and including install.bat (the whole purpose of install.bat is to copy some files to your sd card, which you've now just done by hand)

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

Hi sfhub

we have 3 phones, all rooted all were running VD roms
I was able to flash 2 with stock recovery as per the OP instructions,
and then flash VH, and re root.

His phone is on VD, wit custom recovery, but the usb does not work
so even if I copy the VD recovery to the sd card via copy paste, how can I execute
the flashing when I cant comunicate with the phone via usb adb.

I need to be able to flash VD recovery via a flashable zip file, or update.zip.
then flash VH update.zip

sorry to sound like a tard.

You do it from a terminal on the phone. You'll be able to flash the stock V9 recovery.

However I wouldn't do this if I were you, because it will be a waste of time. You won't be able to run rage and root ZVH. You are better off sticking with a rooted ZVD.

Do *NOT* install the ZVH update. Without USB working, you won't be able to root.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

I am unable to unzip [zvhroot.zip] i get the following error "an attempt was made to move the file pointer before the beginning of the file" tried with windows explorer and 7-Zip, please help.

Edit: I deleted the zip file, disabled virus protection, downloaded again and got it to work

I can't flash the ZV9 recovery kernel, I keep getting permission denied when I try to flash. I know this phone is rooted because superuser is installed, so WTF

When you typed "su" did you get the "#" prompt? If not, then you don't have root for the purposes of flashing. It might be as simple as needing to look at the phone's screen for a prompt asking you for permissions. You might also have lost root at some point. Did you accept the OTA gingerbread update?

Problem is somewhere on your side. You probably got a corrupted download. I downloaded just now and unzipped no problem. Also ran md5sum and it matches the original.

Check if you have a virus checker that might have tried to "quarantine" the zip file.

I did, then I went back to V9 (accidentally). Then I went back to ZVD and tried to root that. Now I'm back on V9 and it is definitely rooted. Because I'm on V9, do I need to flash the V9 recovery kernel? I should already have it right? And how do I move the update to my SDcard? I'm sorry that I'm a noob at this lol

Basically I've used k500 3 times now to flash (what I think are stock?) roms of ZV9 and ZVD. I just went back from ZVD though because it was messed up, I couldn't go online. Both versions don't allow me to update my PLR/profile/firmware, which I'm not sure if I should be concerned about.

Please post what you typed and where you got the "permission denied" I'd like to see the commands and the results you saw. Unless you just did the steps, don't go by memory because too much could have changed.

The PRL stuff can be fixed once you get everything else working. It just requires a ##786# reset, but don't do that now.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

I got permission denied because my screen was off and I didn't see the superuser prompt. My only question now is

How do I move the ZVH files to my SD card?

And is it safe to flash from ZV9 (and skipping the step where you flash a ZV9 recovery kernel in)?

If you are following the directions, whenever you type install.bat it copies the associated files to the sdcard.

You must have V9 stock recovery installed on the phone prior to installing the ZVH/GingerBread update if you plan to root. If you are sure you have it then skip the appropriate step. However it is just a 30 second step, so I'm not seeing that you would save a lot of effort, and if you are somehow wrong about having V9, you are probably adding another 15-25 minutes to revert to VD and redo the whole process.

I mean how do I move the acutal ZVH update.zip to my SD card? install.bat does not move it

Oh, that. You can copy it using drag&drop and USB mass storage mode or you can adb push it.

place update.zip in your android tools directory
adb push update.zip /sdcard/

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

Alright, back on ZVH. But now ZVH root is saying device not found when I try to run install.bat :/

*kills self*

DId you make sure
1) USB debugging enabled
2) USB mass storage disabled
3) phone connected to PC

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

./rage never does anything. Am i supposed to keep typing that until it does something? I've copy pasted it over 30 times.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

Did you install V9 recovery with no errors?

Are you booted into recovery?

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

Yes to both. I'm sitting here at the failed update screen exactly as the picture says. I keep pasting ./rage into adb shell but I never get the # or usb dinging or anything. I've tried pasting this too cd /sdcard/000root ./rage in one line, as well as cd /sdcard/000root on one line and ./rage on the next and none of them are causing anything to happen.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

I figured out the problem, my antivirus deleted the rage files from the package before I was able to install it to the SD card. All rooted now, thank you for help. How can I check to make sure the Xiconia recovery is installed? Nvmd figured it out, thanks :)

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

Boot to recovery.. Power down, Push and hold Home+Vol Down+Power and it will bring you to recovery. It will say Xionia on the top of that menu. Good luck
