[How To] One-Click Root Your Droid X [Official 2.2 OTA]

Ok. So then you Run the Terminal prompt and instead of "CD" you put Desktop?

No, you will still type "cd". For instance, if you put the sdk folder on your desktop, then you will type in terminal:

cd Desktop
cd "the name of the sdk folder"
cd "tools" (no quotes)

then you can proceed...

Yea got that, on to the next line. Stumped again lol

Once you've got that:

4 - enter what's inside the parenthesis (chmod 0755 doroot.sh) THEN HIT ENTER/RETURN
5 - then type (./doroot.sh) ENTER/RETURN (of course, do not type the parenthesis)

let it run from there...

I would love to know this as well!:)

This is unbelievable...I have done this at least 30 times today, and I even did a complete data wipe on my phone. This is what I end up with EVERYTIME. Can't anyone give me a little guidance?

"[*] adb connection will be reset. restart adb server on desktop and re-login.
Reconnecting in 20 sec...

* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *

Checking for devices...

The exploit failed. Do you want to try again?

Type yes or no: "

Thanks.

I had the same problem. My Moto Drivers were all up to date, I couldn't explain it. I ended up using the command line method for Droid2Root and it worked perfectly, first time. I wish I would have done that first. Only difference was, I needed to put the phone into "Charge Only" mode (with USB debugging, of course), not "PC Mode" like the directions call for.

Good luck!

could not kill pid 8911: No such process
any tips for this? please respond. thx.

Just a quick question...

I'm rooted thanks to this method and even though I managed to get it done, I'm still new to all things root. So I have one question: If I decide to restore my phone to factory, will I lose root?

Thanks.

Just keep trying. If you can't get it after many tries, go to the XDA thread and talk to 'darkonion' or 'facelessuser'. They're willing to help you one on one if you need it.

Easier 1-2-3 Droid 2 Root for Windows and Linux (and soon Mac) - xda-developers

Totally agree. Super helpful. Also, Facelessuser is the one writing the root script, so he would know first hand were things are going wrong for you. We spent 6 hours back and forth through E-mails until he could re-write the script to work with phones that had 2.1 rooted with easy root prior to the 2.2OTA. Thus, his 2.1 version of his "1-click" script.

Are you using the 2.1 version of the script? Is your phone set to charge or PC. Have you tried rebooting both phone and PC?
