Android Central Question

I have a an encrypted memo file named (Memo.enmm). This file contain my work records. My mobile gets crushed and after repairing I am not able able to open that specific file. please help.

How to open an encrypted memo file for android mobile?

As usual I keep recording personal related data on the default application of my Android Mobil (Model: A7 Manufactured data 2015). Unfortunately My phone dropped in water and shut off. After repairing and restoring my data from computer, I am not able to open backup of MEMO. Seems it has been encrypted having the extension of (*.enmm). I need anyone technical support to help me open this file and retrieve my records.

Re: How to open an encrypted memo file for android mobile?

The only way of decrypting the file is with the encryption password. (Even if you remember the password you encrypted it with on the old phone, the "repair" was probably replacement of the motherboard, which would change the encryption, so the old password wouldn't work any longer.)

Moral of the story - never back any encrypted files. Decrypt them, back them up, then encrypt them again. The backup should always be unencrypted, or encrypted with the backup computer's encryption - but there should always be at least 1 unencrypted backup somewhere.

Re: How to open an encrypted memo file for android mobile?

Dear Rukbat,
Before to face with this problem, my mobile was installed with stock rom (default operating system) whereas none of the parts within my mobile have been changed during repair. The only thing have been replaced was the operating system and the engineer installed Custom ROM OS. Possibly this would be the reason am not able to open my memo records. I haven’t given any password to my memo files neither encrypted them.
Will it help to change the OS back to stock rom ?

Note: Since contents are important, hence I would appreciate your support to get a solution for it.

Best Regards

Re: How to open an encrypted memo file for android mobile?

Encryption keys on devices are randomly-generated, otherwise someone could use the key from one device to unlock the data from your device (not very secure, is it?). Even on the same device, if it's wiped and re-configured the encryption key will be different.

Re: How to open an encrypted memo file for android mobile?

Is this a Samsung A7 (There are other A7 models from Lenovo and Oppo I think). If it was a Samsung, did you back it up to Samsung cloud? How was it backed up to the PC? If it was only copied and pasted from the SD card, then no, it can't be unlocked anymore. It should have been backed up using the Samsung Kies or SmartSwitch software, which would make it unlockable using password.

Re: How to open an encrypted memo file for android mobile?

It is a samsung galaxy A7 (SM-A700FD 2015) I have backed up the entire data on my phone through SmartSwitch application on the following address
(C:\Users\Jawid Ahmad NASIRY\Documents\Samsung\SmartSwitch\backup\SM-A700FD\SM-A700FD_0700298589\SM-A700FD_20171206144605\NMemo\NMemo.enmm). I could restore everything except that memo file. I don't know why it has been encrypted. because the default memo application of samsung is not as secure as to be encrypted.

Please help .
