How to open .apk file in android 2.2 froyo if no file browser app

Hi,
How to open .apk file in android 2.2 froyo if no file browser app is present? I have lg optimus p505 and p509 phones which I use as a small tablet. I am in a place where there is no wi-fi. I have a bunch of apps in .apk format in the sd card. the phones don't have file browser app in the applications.
How do I open the .apk files? Please help.
i tried all stock apps installed in the phone and none of them are like a file browser.

I don't have data service on the phone not have wi-fi. that's the issue. is there anyway i can run the .apk file from sd card using any stock app that comes with the phone? i don't see any stock app in the lg optimus

I don't think you have to actually download it to use the "download" functionality. Place the .apk in the browser's download dir and maybe you can then see them from the browser's download view.

Or install them with adb from a PC
