[HOW-TO] : Restore Nook Color back to stock EASILY! UPDATE:1/3/11

Re: [HOW-TO] : Restore Nook Color back to stock EASILY! UPDATE:1/

Hi there!

I accidentally write Cm7.1 into the main memory of nook. My nook was updated from the BN site since version 1.2 to 1.4.1. At the time that I did the CM7, version was 1.4.1.

I also see that I have installed in the memory the ROM manager, version 3.2.0.1.

I have questions about the procedure.

1-On step 7 , install .img on sd card mention to add the zip file to the computer, which zip file?, because if i create the .img from that file, why I need the zip file in the computer? to access later?

2-What is the benefit to go from BN version 1.2 and then start upgrading to 1.4.1 using BN files?

Thanks for all your help!

Re: [HOW-TO] : Restore Nook Color back to stock EASILY! UPDATE:1/

The .zip file or files referred to are the ROM and the gaaps files.

You do not have to go all the way back to 1.2 to restore the factory ROM, you can go straight to 1.3 or 1.4.1....

Re: [HOW-TO] : Restore Nook Color back to stock EASILY! UPDATE:1/

Maybe this is a simple fix....but how do you add the zipped rom to the sdcard after you image it with eyeballer? After I image the sdcard, the computer does not want to read it and won't let me copy a file to it? Has to be a simple solution but I can't find it and have tried multiple sdcards.

Nevermind...found out my issue....simply had to remove and reinsert card

Thanks

Re: [HOW-TO] : Restore Nook Color back to stock EASILY! UPDATE:1/

It seems there are several downloads no longer working. Could someone please re-up them maybe to rapidshare or filesonic?

Re: [HOW-TO] : Restore Nook Color back to stock EASILY! UPDATE:1/

Following your directions, I think I have everything back to stock. I am not sure what original version it was running, but we downloaded version 1.4.1. The only problem I am encountering now is I can't seem to get the device registered. I enter my wife's email address and password, but it refers me to B&N's 800 number. Any suggestions?

Re: [HOW-TO] : Restore Nook Color back to stock EASILY! UPDATE:1/

Should I have not used the 1.4.1 software and downloaded an earlier version and then updated from the B&N website?

Re: [HOW-TO] : Restore Nook Color back to stock EASILY! UPDATE:1/

Thanks to the US government, the Multiupload links no longer work. Dropbox, maybe?

I am having the same issue.

Re: [HOW-TO] : Restore Nook Color back to stock EASILY! UPDATE:1/

Thanks for your compiling this guide. I rooted the nc long ago(12/10?) and would like to return it to stock (I have an n2a card now). Yesterday, I followed tim844's guide on XDA, downloaded several stock versions, tried them all.
nookcolor_1_4_1_signed
nookcolor_1_4_1_signed-cwm
nookcolor_1_4_1_signed-OC
nook-complete-restore-1.0.1

Whether I use his or your formatting steps (slightly different) I cannot get the ROM to boot
Clockwork Mod says "Install Complete", but when I boot I get:
1. Read Forever, then a flash of a yellowish screen
2. Install Failed ? try a reboot (never see this again, until next install)
3. Big n w/Contains Reader, Technology by Adobe Systems Inc (at bottom)

Subsequent boots skip screen 2 above

Any Ideas?

I'm having the same issue too! I will keep searching for the "fix".

Can I get step by step instructions on how to do this on a MAC? I thought I had deleted CM7, but what I have now is a Nook that is working okay, but I can't upgrade it to 1.4 and occasionally, the CM7 menu still pops up.

I am not very good at this and I don't want to screw up my Nook.

Thanks.

Is there any place to get the disk image these days? Following the original link all I get are ads and iLivid downloads.

Re: [HOW-TO] : Restore Nook Color back to stock EASILY! UPDATE:1/

i have an old nook color 1.0.1. FW. the 1.4.1 image using CWM works fine but i receive an error when nook goes through it's initial set up. I would get an generic error message after it prompts to get sign to B&N. any ideas? is there a 1.0.1 image?

ERROR states:

ERROR we are having trouble setting up your nook. please shutdown the device and try again.

if the problem persists, contact Customer support at 1-800-the-book

device info:

SW version 1.4.1
Model Number BNRV200
Battery Level !94% <-- any idea why there's a ! sign before the battery?

edit: i was able to hold the skip the registration and goto my nook. however I'm now getting a "unable to reset device locally" when trying to factory reset the nook.,?? wtf

edit#2. called B&N and it appears that a manual removal of the nook serial was needed by them. i guess jumping around with these versions locks it up.

all problems are resolved.

The link to the disc image does not work. It goes to some phony ad. Can someone help with a link to an image that will work, please?
