You will not need to *reactivate* your phone (ie change the MEID attached to your plan) You may or may not need to *reprovision* (ie have the critical info entered into your phone automatically so it works on Sprint's network) depending on how the process goes.

By provision I mean Hands Free Activation (followed by update prl, update firmware, update profile, etc.) pops up on your screen a few seconds and you are done.

Most of the time you won't need to reprovision either, but certain scenarios the provisioning data may get into an unusable state and you need to do a reset, which will force a reprovision.

You aren't screwed. Just stay calm.

You reverted to V9 successfully, that is good.

You can tell if your phone is powered if you plug it into the PC and hear USB sounds. Make sure you hear some sounds and at least you know the phone is working.

USB debugging doesn't get turned off by accident. Did you do anything to turn it off, either explicitly by the menus or by doing wipe data from recovery or privacy reset?

In windows, with the phone plugged in, look at the device manager
Start Menu->Run
devmgmt.msc

Look for something at the top that says ADB interface and under that "Android Sooner Single ADB Interface"

If that isn't there look under modems for "LGE Android USB Modem #x" and report if it is there (might need it for worse case scenario)

If you don't have Android Sooner Single ADB Interface, then USB debugging is truly disabled.

Debugging was turned off somehow. I had a phone reboot I wasn't expecting during the KP500 flash that surprised me. Wonder if that had something to do with it.

The problem I have now is, I need to root my phone and I can't get z4root on it.

Your phone does reboot as part of KP500 flash. As long as the flash tool got to the "completed" stage, then that part worked ok. It is possible something got messed up with /data and it recreated everything from scratch, which would reset USB debugging.

Download z4root from here:

Turn on install from unknown sources.

adb install z4root.1.3.0.apk

from your PC.

for those with black screen issues after reverting to v9, and need to root, just use superoneclick 1.7. it will root the phone even with no display. then flash clock work recovery in cmd, then force flash vc or vd. i successfully rooted, flashed recovery, and updated on many devices using this method. using superoneclick eliminates the need to see anything on the device

I added SuperOneClick as a third option under the new LCD post.

You should also try android screencast. It really makes the screen issue a non-issue as far as rooting goes.

When you typed the name of the cab file into KP500 you used
LS670V9.cab

If your directory really did match what I gave you, then the filename should have been:
LS670ZV9.cab

Did your phone reboot yet? Post the log.

Don't reboot the phone if the process is hung and you see the updating screen on the phone.

Better to restart the flash process. When it can't see your phone, unplug/plug your phone in and hit restart. It should go into emergency mode.

So your phone is booted into Android right now? Look at the software version in settings->about phone.

If it says ZV9 you are probably ok.

However, your log file doesn't look like it wrote to the phone at all. In that case, I'd just start the process again.

If your phone isn't booted into Android and instead is in the Software Downloading screen, then do not restart the phone, only restart the flashing software.

You can press ctrl-c in the KP500 command prompt to get it to stop.

HELP! Just updated phone to LS670ZVD and I only have a MAC.

So I have been thinking about rooting my optimus S, because the low storage space warning is getting EXTREMELY annoying and I find myself having to constantly remove apps I want just to get rid of it.
Anyway, I've never read anything about rooting and then I come on here today because I can't put up with having that message one more time. And I see I apparently am screwed because I did the update the other day, not having read about the fact it would make my phone unrootable. I found directions showing that you can go backwards and the KP500, but my problem is I use a MAC and don't have bootcamp or anything that will run windows programs, so I'm really not sure how or even if it's possible to get my phone back to the previous version so that I can root my phone and also get my hotspot working.

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Download VirtualBox and install a copy of Windows on it.
Windows will run for 30 days without being activated, so you should have plenty of time to fix your phone.

*I am able to get to the lg update step but no matter what I do it refuses to read the phone. It is connected it just won't read it for some reason. I already had my phone flashed but I accidently reset it to factory settings so I'm trying to reflash it and it just isn't cooperating. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.*

Yes it beeps at me when it's unplugged and plugged in. And yes USB debugging is enabled. And yes LGE android platform usb modem is under modems.
