Yes it beeps at me when it's unplugged and plugged in. And yes USB debugging is enabled. And yes LGE android platform usb modem is under modems.

The only time I had problems like you describe is when I started clearing out registry entries for LG USB devices. I didn't take the time to figure out what was broken as I had recently installed the LG software and just system restored to an earlier date.

I'm sure after one knows the cause it wouldn't be that difficult to fix, but perhaps the quickest way to get it working would be to try a different PC. If you don't want to do that, you could try deinstalling the software/drivers and reinstalling. I'll assume you've already rebooted the PC.

I had this problem. KP500 expects image and language files in C:documents and settings\all users\application Data\LGMobilEAX\. However, it does not place them there - you need to install the LG Updater program first - that install process puts them there. Then when you run KP500, it can use those files.

My company blocked the install of the LG Mobile Updater, so when I tried to use KP500 instead, I got the same errors you see. I ended up finding the files online and could manually place them where KP500 expects them. My only problem was that I could only find a foreign lang.opt file to put in the Language folder, so I had to use Google Translate during my install to find out what I was being told to do. Hopefully you can figure out an easier solution.

Mine kept doing this until I check my Devices and Printers and noticed the phone was showing up with an error. I had windows attempt to solve the problem and it said I didn't have the driver needed installed for my device. I then realized I hadn't added the driver when I installed and started the LG Updater. Make sure you open the updator and install the driver for our phone.

thanks for the help guys that was part of the problem but I was still getting that error but it would at least start after I did what you said so I ended up deleting everything and starting from scratch and I apparently did something wrong because it worked like a dream after I started all over ..... thanks again for your help guys

Can't be done without using Windows, at least in a virtual machine and even then it's hit and miss. Best bet is to borrow a friend's Windows machine for a half hour.

I used the instructions at the beginning of this thread, and was able to revert to V9- thanks so much!

Also, to get rid of the update notification, I waited for the pop up that said "Update Now, Update Later, and More Info." I clicked "More Info", then shut off the phone, pulled the battery, replaced it, and turned it back on. Did this last night, and the notification hasn't come back- yay! I have my hotpsot back, and the notification is gone.

It didn't say "same file as (e)", it said "same folder as (e)", meaning place the cab file in:

Generally this error means you didn't rename the file correctly. Can you please post the output of

dir C:\wherever\you\put\kp500
Obviously change the path above to your particular path

My path is

Which is where the 5 files are located, I'm running the program in XP Compatibility mode on my Windows 7 machine.

Should it not be that? (this is my first time trying to do anything like this with a cell phone/smart phone so you'll have to excuse some dumb questions, I'll probably ask a few of them LOL)

Ok, I figured out the error. my .cab file was named something different, so I made the adjustment and it works

Quick question though, my phone shows that I am on V9, not V9VC or V9VD, that's ok right? The only feature I care about is the wifi hotspot.

The version # is in hexadecimal. 0,1,2,3,...9,A,B,C,D,E,F (A is 10, F is 15)

There is no version V9VC or V9VD, only V8, V9, VC, VD. You are at V9 right now. It is rootable and your hotspot will work.

You can go to VC if you'd like and personal hotspot will still work, but rooting could get messed up unless you follow specific sequences. VD the personal hotspot will work if you install a custom ROM, TR1.8.2

If all you want is personal hotspot to work on stock ROM, just stick with what you have now, it is less trouble.

I just wanted to say how grateful I am to you (and this forum). This thread was a life-saver. As a newbie, I really just wanted to reclaim my wi-fi hotspot, and this did it for me. If I ever feel brave enough, I may try rooting, but for now, I'm ecstatic with this simple fix!

For all who are curious, I have an Optimus S, and had just received the evil VD update. I followed the instructions for flashing to V9 using the kp500. And the entire procedure was painless! I have zero programming experience, and it took me about 30-40 minutes total, beginning at step a.

The instructions were amazingly clear and easy to follow. Here is just one MINOR edit that would help newbies.

For step k), I had a brief moment of confusion when I tried typing "KP500-Utils-EN.exe" into the command prompt, and it didn't work. I had just performed the optional checksum, and it took me a couple minutes to realize that I first needed to enter, "C:\KP500-Utils-EN-v0.4.2>dir" before I could then type "KP500-Utils-EN.exe" to run the executable file.

Like I said, I'm a newbie. I barely I understand what I did. I'm just glad it worked! Thanks again.

Glad you got it working. I was about to modify the instructions to reflect your suggestion but realized that what you did couldn't have affected whether KP500 ran or not. "dir" just gives a directory listing. It doesn't affect where programs are run from or whether programs can run.

I think possibly there was a small typo when you typed KP500-Utils-EN.exe the first time and after you entered "dir" then reentered KP500-Utils-EN.exe, it was entered correctly.

I have two Win7 x64 systems (one Pro, one Enterprise), and both complain that the LG drivers are unsigned and refuse to install the Android Platform Sooner Single ADB Interface (lgandadb.sys). Is this critical? Is there a signed copy of this driver or a workaround? I'm not exactly a Win7 expert...

Found a workaround; rebooting Windows and pressing F8 to disable driver signing enforcement.
